I agree.

When the news was released she'd been ordered to rest by her doctors I started thinking here we go.
 
I said when Phil died I expected the queen would last about a year, there are studies.that say many elderly loving couples are so intetwined and close that when one goes the other will within weeks or up to a year.

Also not a monarchist, and after lizzy I would like to see it dissapear as an institution, but she has put in a good innings and as said when looking at the shitshow running the place she is the only one people respect.

Lets hope she is just tired and pulls through to recover and gets well soon.

The country would crack on as normal apart from a few days of BBC based tears.

Charles will be buzzing though. He'll finally be allowed to bone Camilla without feeling all suicidal.
 
She was born into this life, and has fulfilled the imperative she was given with grace, poise and humor…whether you agree with having the monarchy or not.

Clearly, times have changed over her reign, but to denigrate the sacrifice (I can hear some of you now. Save it!) and service she has given to this country is ignorant.

She will go down in the history books positively. I think that’s a good thing.

That said, by the time William becomes King, I expect royalty in England will have changed dramatically…a la other European royals.
 
Schools around here do not seem hopeful she will last until her jubilee and thus the extra bank holiday may be cancelled and are taking the bank holiday early as have been given the option to take the extra jubilee bank holiday as an extra day off at any point this school year as the jubilee celebrations fall in an already planned half term when they are off.

The two schools my kids are at have either opted to take today off for it to start the half term holidays early or added it on to the Christmas holidays. Strange that it is not mandatory to add it to the half term closest to the celebration.

Its not a hard gig but have to admit I would have put my feet up by now in her position.

The big issue with her popping her clogs is that we have a slightly nutty and odd looking man to step in or a nonce if he gets hit by a bus in the interim. In fact i dont even know how ot works. In what circumstance do we get the nonce king?

you don't is the short answer - Charles - William - Baby William - all would need to be taken out.
 
I'm not a royalist, i hope her health issues improve and certainly wish her no harm.
I do think that, after she passes, we should have a vote about whether we keep the monarchy or not

He is 9th in line to the throne, there is almost no likelihood of that happening. It would require his nephews and all their children to die before him.

A lot of the royal family having a tragic accident would get the Duke of Nonce as king.

We need all the pomp and ceremony for the tourists, that’s estimated at £0.5bn in hard cash annually and double that in terms of our image abroad. Once you overlay it with general heritage revenue of £4.5bn and think of it as a business venture the £70m it costs us bloody good value. It’s not like we are renowned for great weather, beaches or food to attract then.

No chance we will follow in other nation footsteps and sacrifice that because of a gnashing of teeth from “republicans”. If Disney said they was building a theme park here those same folk would be wetting themselves with excitement thinking about the tourism.

Charles should abdicate for the greater good because he doesn’t have the appeal of his mum nor William and Kate. I doubt he will though.

I hope the queen makes a full recovery. She does so much for this country, just by breathing she’s keeping Charles off the throne. Will be a sad day when she goes.
