The Queen in hospital overnight

We need all the pomp and ceremony for the tourists, that’s estimated at £0.5bn in hard cash annually and double that in terms of our image abroad. Once you overlay it with general heritage revenue of £4.5bn and think of it as a business venture the £70m it costs us bloody good value. It’s not like we are renowned for great weather, beaches or food to attract then.

No chance we will follow in other nation footsteps and sacrifice that because of a gnashing of teeth from “republicans”. If Disney said they was building a theme park here those same folk would be wetting themselves with excitement thinking about the tourism.

Charles should abdicate for the greater good because he doesn’t have the appeal of his mum nor William and Kate. I doubt he will though.

I hope the queen makes a full recovery. She does so much for this country, just by breathing she’s keeping Charles off the throne. Will be a sad day when she goes.

When you are getting into the issue of people abdicating before taking the throne maybe it's a time to close the book on the whole thing.

I'm not a royalist, i hope her health issues improve and certainly wish her no harm.
I do think that, after she passes, we should have a vote about whether we keep the monarchy or not
I certainly hope her health improves as well.
I am a Royalist, probably the only one on here, and would bet all I have that a vote to retain the institution would ensue.

I’m a royalist too, but not one of those flag waving let’s have a street party sort - although we will have a party for the jubilee mostly because Mrs MB has some crockery that she needs an excuse to use.

But if I had to fight to defend these shores doing it “for queen and country” has a much better chance of me fighting to my last than a call to arms “for president and country”

Well, we are similar, I too am not a flag waver and 'God save our gracious temporary president' doesn't really scan.

It probably would, maybe the next generation will stop the forelock tugging

Schools around here do not seem hopeful she will last until her jubilee and thus the extra bank holiday may be cancelled and are taking the bank holiday early as have been given the option to take the extra jubilee bank holiday as an extra day off at any point this school year as the jubilee celebrations fall in an already planned half term when they are off.

The two schools my kids are at have either opted to take today off for it to start the half term holidays early or added it on to the Christmas holidays. Strange that it is not mandatory to add it to the half term closest to the celebration.

fucking hell teachers taking an extra day iff in case someone dies. who would have thought.

I'm by no means a royalist.

However politically Liz is probably the only Statesperson that commands respect from other world leaders.

She's literally cleaning up the shit her government is dropping. No wonder she's knackered.
She’s got faulty genes, look at her offspring, hardly the paragons of virtue are they? I don’t wish anything bad on her but ffs some folk shed more tears for people they don’t know than their own families.

Hope she makes a full recovery and is around for a few more years.

The problem is that palace spokesmen have a habit of downplaying any health concerns. For example I remember it being reported that Prince Philip was in good spirits and expecting to go back to Windsor Castle a day or two before he died.

I hope what they're saying this time about it just being precautions is correct.

She seems like a hard working woman who has sacrificed any kind of normality in order to head the royal family so I can give her respect for that.
The rest of the royal family being the car crash it is don’t get a second of my time though and if it wasn’t a money maker for the country would likely have been fucked off by now. Whilst they still bring in the coin they will continue to live their lives under the impression they are somewhat special when the reality is only by a quirk of fate at birth are they afforded the lives they have.
Most would be working at B&M otherwise.
Anyway, good luck to Lizzie, hope she recovers.

I don't class myself as being a Royalist but nobody can agrue with the commitment and dedication she has put into this role.
I really wish she would take time to herself now and step down and give Charles the burden to carry, surely she would wan to see her son as King before her life come to an end.

Ignore the fact that she is the queen for a moment. I would have thought any elderly person deserves respect. Sometimes posters try to out do each other to show they hate someone more than others and show themselves up in the process.

some of the posts I've seen in this topic and others about people like the Queen and other elderly high profile people are nothing short of shocking.

God forbids anything happen's to elderly loved ones in their families.

Is he not 7th now - after Harry's divorce from The Firm?

The line of succession was unchanged, but it is a bit complicated... would they come back into the fold as to uphold the duty or would they reject it as a poisoned chalice?

I think a lot of Harry's dissatisfaction is caused by being "the spare", if he were to have a genuine chance of being the monarch he might change his tune.

Who knows though.

A vote? how come? Keen to know why you think we should?

They do a lot of good for us in terms of tourism, tax, influence etc etc.
