Last Film You Saw

Best ones IMO, might watch a few tomorrow.
Yeah quite a few people have said that, I remember liking them when they came out but not so much now. Saying they're average maybe a little harsh, just not as keen as I once was on them.

I think the villians in both are good though, Willem Dafoe and Alfred Molina did great jobs.

Maybe it's an age thing mate? They are nearer to the comics, tongue in cheek humour etc.

Try to watch the new Marvel films and I can't bloody keep up with them :)

Probably an age thing. Tbh it might be because I've binged all the marvel stuff over the past few months (could never keep up with them but Disney+ has meant I can now) and I'm probably comparing them to some of the better Marvel films like GOTG and Infinity War, which probably isn't that fair.

You see I haven't read the comics so maybe I'm missing that angle, fans of the comics have said they're quite accurate films.

I just think Spider-Man lacks a personality in these, in the modern ones he interacts and talks more as Spider-Man. The villains were done right though, Alfred Molina as Doc Oc is very memorable.

Comedy villains like Lex Luthor and the Penguin from the old films are what's missing for me mate.

Scenes like this, no CGI just good old fashioned slapsick buffoonery, over the top plastic acting.

I know times move on but watching this as a kid was genuinely thrilling at the time, a bit like the old Dr Who which was childrens ground breaking sci-fi until they turned it into a battleground for subliminal messages.

Dune - streamed on HBO max - watching with a new OLED large screen TV.

The visuals were great - the acting OK. I enjoyed Dune - but it's not spectacular in any sense. 7.5/10.

Venom 2: Let there be carnage

Not the best story but some good characters and enjoyed the comedy from Venom. Would have liked to see more from Carnage though. Probably could have been longer than 1 hour 37 mins to get more story in there. Nice little post credits scene, setting up a future tie in with another franchise.

7.5/10

The Notebook, from 2004, what a barrel of laughs. The girlfriend said to me 'If I had that kind of Altzheimers, and I could only be compos mentis 5 mins a day, would you keep reading the same story over and over to me day after day, for those 5 minutes of clarity and rememberance where I recognize you?'
Trying to be honest, I said 'Yeah, but I might take a few days off every now and then, I'm not a saint and you wouldn't know no different, what about if it was me with the Altzheimers?'
She said, 'Nah, I don't think there'd be any point'

Just finished watching all 9 Jesse Stone movies.

Tom Selleck stars as an out-of-sorts police chief, divorced, and with a drinking problem, fired from the Los Angeles Police Department and consequently seeking work in a much smaller town - Paradise, Massachusetts - population roughly 5,000.

The 9 Jesse Stone movies are all about 90 min each - and are made-for-TV episodes. As a result, the movies are very close to a traditional streaming series consisting of 9 episodes. Each subsequent movie is faithful to past episodes and should thus be viewed in order for maximum enjoyment. I recommend this order for viewing:
  • Jesse Stone: Night Passage (2006)
  • Jesse Stone: Stone Cold (2005)
  • Jesse Stone: Death in Paradise (2006)
  • Jesse Stone: Sea Change (2007)
  • Jesse Stone: Thin Ice (2009)
  • Jesse Stone: No Remorse (2010)
  • Jesse Stone: Innocents Lost (2011)
  • Jesse Stone: Benefit of the Doubt (2012)
  • Jesse Stone: Lost in Paradise (2015)
The above is basically in chronological order of release - except that Night Passage should be viewed first - but was released after Stone Cold.
===
Acting is engaging but not outstanding - you'll find no sublime performances. But, the acting is entirely believable - no actor is asked to perform outside of his or her boundaries. And the writing and plot for each episode are very good.
===
I highly recommend the Jesse Stone series of movies for those who enjoy crime drama - the downside is that you'll probably need to purchase/rent most of the movies - on Amazon Prime, the "Stone Cold" movie was free - but every other movie was not.

Overall rating: 8.5/10

Spider-Man 3
(2007)

The worst of the trilogy, storylines are a mess, characters are annoying, couldn't make their mind up on who was going to be their villain, so they added 3 into the movie. Bar Aunt May not a single character has a redeeming quality about them, including Spider-Man himself. They made him this pathetic, weak person and a bit of a prick in parts of the movie. JK Simmons is the only person that comes out of the trilogy with any credit.

4/10

Glad I don't have to go through that trilogy again.

Looked them up on IMDB. Of the six I saw, all had ratings of 7.2, or 7.3 - I don't know how that level of consistent score is even possible.

BBC Four. Probably still on Iplayer. Started watching it once years back but bailed after a few minutes for whatever reason. Maybe it helped that this time I missed the beginning, my viewing began with about ten minutes solid of Julie Christie, in all her naked glory, being 'loved' in each and every way by Donald Sutherland. Regardless, I found the rest really good. I can see why the cinephiles rate it highly. Not a lot going on in many ways. Just a few quiet parts of a run down Venice, a bit of a spooky mystery, and a handful of characters. But it just worked together to create something I couldn't take my eyes off.

This was on after. Hollywood at it's most Hollywood, with Tom Cruise as the arch villain Lestat. A wierdo airhead who obviously can't act and resorts to shouting a lot to compensate.... mangling an very 'interesting' Oirish accent through false teeth. Hahahahahahaaaaaaaaa.

The Bruce Lee scene was one of my favourite parts, absolutely piss funny. Yes slightly mean to his relatives but by all accounts he was a complete bully/twat on set with lesser mortals.

Yeah, I'm a bit of a Bruce Lee fan tbf and I suspect if I'd not heard the 'furore' surrounding this scene I wouldn't have given it a second thought.
Hilarious and if Bruce Lee really was a serious thinker he'd agree there should be no sacred cows.

There are scenes later on with him training Sharon Tate (which took place) which are lovely so I'd hardly call it a hatchet job on the man.

Was it you who ordered the Rick Dalton poster? Can't quite recall (I'll check back).

Think I have a Rick Dalton shaped space on my wall....

Watched it again last night with my eldest daughter and she found a whole load of fan too.

I thought DiCaprio and Brad Pitt were absolutely awesome in this movie, very funny in parts as well.
I loved the part where Cliff Booth says.. you're Rick Dalton don't forget that. :)
And of course the ending.
