Past City Players Not Everyone Rated, But You Miss Now

If compared to the crop we have currently, quite a challenge to miss them now. But as a City player in that moment, apart from the obvious names here like Ali B, Uwe, Tiatto, Kinkladze, SWP, I would go for

Darren Huckerby
Alvaro Negredo (I have a few Le Bestia kits)
Costel Pantilimon (good 2nd keeper with immense reach during the still traditional GK era)
Michael Johnson (what could have been)

Not player per se but a kind of chemistry missed. With SGE we had a good mix of young players in Onuoha, Micah, SWP, Bradley, Stephen Ireland, Michael Johnson, Fernandes. Prior to that we had Keegan with the Ali B, Berkovic, Horlock midfield which worked well, though I remembered Berkovic fallen out of favour yet not sure the reason behind it.

Jesus Navas for me.

He was slagged off by our fans every single game and was a much better player than he was given credit for.

And he drove a Nissan Micra to training while all the other players showed up in Ferraris etc. Got to love the guy for that.

Admired him for that also Kolarov in a Smart Car.

I wouldn't say I miss, but I always thought Alfons Groenendijk had a great reading of he game and range of passing.

Unfortunately the English game at the time probably didn't allow for thinkers too much.
Remember Reid informing us when he signed that he could open a tin of peas with his left foot....didnt really see much from him in his few appearances, maybe right player wrong time if we are being kind...

How about Jerome Boateng?

Did he stay with us long enough to form opinions? I’m ambivalent of him being a City player because he wanted to leave. I understand Sane with his injury but not Jerome.

Dzeko, Milner and Kolarov, in that order, the only players who who were serious contributors to our titles and they continued playing on the same level after leaving us. Tevez and Navas honorable mention. The rest just sank to the bottoms of mediocrity.

Anelka, a fabulous player always felt better when he was on the team sheet but boy did he sulk!
I'm with you, absolutely 1st class striker and had a proper shot on him, when he was in the mood.

If ever we needed a player who knew where the net was and could score a goal from nothing it's now, but when he wasn't in the mood he was either totally anonymous or simply signalled to the bench that he'd "pulled something" and fucked off home (I'm thinking Portsmouth away in the rain and snow)

Kare Ingebrigtsen. If you was there for his FA Cup hat trick you'll know what I mean. Don't care if that was all he ever scored for us I'd rather have him than ronaldo. CITY CITY CITY.

It proves what a weird and surreal game that was when you remember that the utterly useless Alan Kernaghan also scored a worldie from 35-40 yards. I’m still not sure I didn’t dream the entire thing

Bravo - as a number 2.
Think he was better than steffan is now
Once he was dropped to no.2, he was really good in the cup games. His awful form prior to that was a complete mystery. Pep knew him well and would not pick a dud.

Puts Tin foil and hard hat on.

Lee Bradbury

Even if it was just for that goal against Millwall away …the look on the faces of those cockney wankers was a picture to behold. If memory serves me well he nearly bagged all 3 points as well, fuck knows how long dibble would have kept us in that shithole had he done so.
