Makes sense given the type of low block we come up against nowadays. Not sure how we managed it in 17/18 and again in 18/19 but we seemed to have space to run in behind with Sane and Sterling hardly ever anymore.

Surely the reverse is true then for what they can't offer in pace, movement etc (taking form out of it and looking at tool set). He look much more comfortable with Jesus in the 9, going round the LB to the byline last night, we've gotten Raz or Sane in with quick one-twos in the short passing game more times than i can count under Pep.

There are vaiable reasons to sell/move Sterling one but not sure i'd count that as one of them

I don’t think Pep cares about pace anymore. Sterlings movement is brilliant, but his control not so much all our other wingers are better with the ball at their feet. They can play that quick passing game.

Our games evolved more about quick passing, rather than pace to get in behind. its why I think when we go for a striker it will be a striker that can control the ball and play quick passes.

Just seems odd reasoning, we're not exactly playing a fast passing game at the min, the tempo has been very slow, only Foden & Raz on that front line are making any moves in behind without the ball it seems at the min.

We had a lot of issues with low blocks back then, particularly 17/18. We were just really good at getting something in the end one way or another, which likely stems from something other than tactics.

Makes sense. With pep wanting players with more control, as the replacement linked if Sterling leaves is Antony at Ajax who want 50 mil. Watched him last night he’s not very fast but his skill on the ball is brilliant was always a danger against Dortmund with his passing and quick play. Also his first touch for the 3rd goal was Mahrez esque

when teams routinely put ten in the box, they also give up the space between touch-line and area. A normal lofted centre is a hit and hope attempt at best, teams accept the risk. Time to move on, be it tactics or personnel, maybe both. Tough at the top, worse at the bottom.....

I don't know about this. We have the luxury to develop two teams. Why not make one that is passing-dominant, and another that is pace-dominant? And have the option to mix between the two. A false-9 3-4-3, and a striker based 4-1-4-1 which we used with Aguero 2 years ago? Or Peps 4-2-3-1 Bayern?

When we are in a final and behind on the score, I would want us to overstrain the opposition box with pace and passing. But Pep knows best.

I guess it's time to part ways with Sterling if the Tweets are true, and whichever club gets him, they have a phenomenal player in their roster. If there's a club that would use him well, it would be Bayern. Sane is there, and I rate Sterling as better than Coman.

No, he's still just a ****. It's just shit stirring.

Who do we play again this weekend?
Oh he’s definitely a ****. I know him from way back. Heywood lad, used to rob his mum and dads off license of chomps on my way home from school every day :-)
But that saying about broken clocks rings true in this instance.

He's not right though. Raheem just wants a change of scene and has seen his arse over competition.

All the things Sterling is currently bad at, he's always been bad at, as is City facing low blocks and Bernardo and a couple others having superior technique.

Same reason we still offered him a new contract.

I’ve thought he’s struggling because of the way we now play for a while, long before seeing that tweet. Doesn’t make me right of course but a player who loses possession as often as Sterling doesn’t work like it did 2/3 years ago when we stretched the play much more than we do atm.
You are definitely right in saying the things he’s always struggled with he still does but the big factor for me is the stuff he used to excel at no longer happens regularly enough.

Antony reminds me of Raphinha at Leeds, both are class players with a lot of trickery and wonderful left foot

Can’t see Antony being signed whilst mahrez is still here though as they both play same position and cut in from the left, potentially a mahrez replacement when his contract is up rather than Sterling replacement ?

Two words.

David Silva.

He left and so did everything that was good for Sterling.

Although you could say the same about Aguero too. Aguero made the runs that created space for Sterling to operate it. Nobody does that now. His performances for England suggest that he's still got it when paired with a proper striker.

Sterling last night wasn't arsed, he never challenged twice trying to chase back & when we won the ball back he took ages to get out wide, he scored he didn't careless neither did Pep its a shame really but it won't get fixed

Pep has shifted bigger fish than Sterling let's see if January happens imo get shut its not hurting us with this carry on espeacialy going into knockout football & March-May fixtures

Sterling needs to move on to save his World Cup place

Right now Sterling & Kane are nowhere near there potential but it won't be there fault

Seems like Sterling can’t win, whether he plays well or not...

Why not?

They are professional's who have lost motivation because of their selfish desires and have lost touch with their current employers.

It's very much their fault in my opinion.
