John Crace on the Toraidhs latest decline

The whole thing stank. This was as clear an example of Tory sleaze as you could hope for. The government hadn’t got the result it had wanted from the investigation so it was going to set up another body who would come up with the correct one. One rule for MPs, one for the rest of the country. No wonder people’s trust in politicians was so low.

All he was asking for was that another committee might be formed that would come to a different conclusion and let Owen off.

One that would make allowances for particularly thick MPs who were seemingly unable to grasp the consequences of their actions.

Takes CNN to put him on the spot - amazing how he outright denies the truth at the start - does he not understand numbers?

We need to give him a break. In his mind he is saying that if you get the jab then you as an individual have a greater chance of surviving COVID but if you do get it, possibly unknown to you, and then pass it onto somebody more vulnerable, then that’s down to that individual to deal with, even if they don’t survive. His is the survival of the fittest mantra.

As long as you keep going to work and buying your tea and tiffin along the way, that’ll be just dandy.

Again, we need to give him a break. With such a finding, it would mean that possibly all of the cabinet, and many Tory MPs could be in the same position so who would be there to run the country whilst they are suspended?

The fact that they only get a months suspension for being corrupt should be the bigger question.

He's sat on his arse watching the data and having a good old chuckle. We are that use to seeing hundreds of unecessary deaths every day we've become immune to it, Herd immunity they call, now that the sheep have been gas lighted into these deaths don't matter there's no need to take any action just let it rip through the population,
What happened to following the scientific advice?

I await his resignation as well...
It’s not improper to stay at a friends house free of charge.

I think this is a problem for those that wish to discredit boris. Picking out things that aren’t valid dilutes the argument.

it’s not hard to find evidence of his unsuitability to run the country. There’s no need to generate additional invalid reasons why.

when you get a free holiday from a former MP who lost his seat and was gifted a peerage and you don't declare it that is not a good look - especially when you had a Caribbean island holiday paid for by someone else which he didn't declare until late and that bullshit break in a tent in Scotland - you see, when a proven liar clams up and won't answer its not really a good look - and I am thinking of a caretaker here if its a PM thats a red flag.

So you agree he’s a **** then?

Like his father he can be entertaining and amusing and is very good at playing the dishevelled character and perhaps there is a place for him in a government but not in charge.

Friend let’s friend stay in his house for free. It’s a non story and any attempt to make it something else detracts from legitimate reasons that he isn’t fit for office.

Ho ho. Telegraph journalist on Question Time reckons Johnson defended Paterson "out of a sense of decency"! In the end, links it to the saintly David Amess. Good grief.

Not if the friend is giving "quid pro quo" for his peerage. Or only people with nice places to stay get a peerage from Johnson. Not if Johnson gives peerages to people rejected by the people who recommend peerages.

Nolan principles. Don't do stuff that might be perceived as wrong, no matter how innocent.

My advice would be "Never make excuses for Tories". You know it makes sense. Ask Kwarteng after this morning's attempt to justify the vote last night.

If I stay at a mates then yes I agree - but a man in charge of the country who is a known liar ( which you seem to be ignoring ) then questions will be asked. If I stay anywhere I am not obliged to declare it anywhere .... Johnson is and that is only because of our positions

as much as you might like to claim that, there’s no proof and it would never be proven either. It’s a waste of energy and as I say distracting and plays into boris’ hands as he can say “look, these people just pick on everything”.

The Paterson vote is a completely separate issue and clearly wrong and an example of getting it wrong.

Hey friend remember when I gave your wife her fist job in politics,
Yes friend I do, and although you lost the Mayor or London election and lost your seat in the GE, have this peerage, you deserve it.
Thanks friend, feel free to stay at my very expensive holiday home for free.
Hey friend, do you think people might view this a slightly corrupt
No! We're just really good friends.
