Francis Lee

Technically good player but rarely delivered. Wouldn't get anywhere near Guardiola's teams. You sure he got Derby's PotY after playing 24 games? Even if he did it's hardly a ringing endorsement to put him on a par with City's current squad.
Anyway just my opinion after watching home and away for City
Technically good enough to be in a squad who went to a World Cup as world champions

Was at the game so not seen the photo / tv footage can anyone post it on here? We all
get old but it’s sometimes hard to take in Lee1pen

Ok , where you going home and away the 3 seasons he was with us if so if you can name a better individual performance by a City player than Gio’s in the 3 3 with Newcastle am all hears after that we discuss his performances at Villa , Coventry , Boro I could carry on am sick to death of City fans slagging him off for basically being to loyal to us and ruining his own career ( he should have left after we got relegated from the prem ) yes sometimes he didn’t do enough agreed but you would get pissed off playing with Paul Beesley , Eddie McGoldrick , Darren Wassel etc, up the blues let’s move on .
You forgot Jamie Pollock!

Also mate he played nearly 100 games for Derby and was there 4 seasons ? He got poty for them but not sure in which year
The year they were in the Championship 2002-03. Derby tried to terminate his contract the year before when they got relegated.

Don’t know why everyone is surprised that Franny was looking old on Sunday. He’s 77. Not ancient, but quite old.

Other than looking like he needed a good trip to the barber, I actually thought he looked alright for his age.

Really fantastic bloke and I remember being at an OSC do where he openly talked about his chairman era, and how his heart was there but the club had too many things to juggle. He could wear a suit well, I remember that. He's a class act as a person, and hopefully being 77 years of age in Mancunian weather was all that was wrong.

We ended up going in a hotel before the game that turned out to be the hotel City were using for invited guests

met loads of old faces

Andy Morrison, Denis Tueart, Shay Given, Buzzer, Brian Horton, Gary Cook (what a lovely bloke). Even Sorriano was flitting about

but Franny was there, sat in a corner wearing sunglasses. He didn’t look well at all. Hope he’s ok

On the BoltFromTheBlue podcast, we've just recorded the final part (of three) on Franny Lee's chairmanship. Did Franny make mistakes that could/should have been avoided or did Swales leave him with an impossible job?

Here's the links to all three parts:

He employed Alan Ball

A fantastic player with one of the hardest shots in football. Francis Lee made a huge contribution to a great team.

An indifferent Chairman, in part, I think, because he was rich but not a billionaire. City needed an absolute fortune spending on them after the Swales years of neglect. I'm sure he did his best, although I wish he had not appointed Ball. It's also unfortunate that he and Colin Bell fell out.

I suppose the modern equivalent would be Aguero coming back in 20 years to be Chairman. And then having a fallout with David Silva.

My lad is named after him. Legend along with Messrs Colin Bell and Mike Summerbee. Franny knew how to take a penalty, straight down the crack hit hard. Awesome.
In my opinion he was a fucking brill player for us
From Westhoughton so am i
So he was my hero (and still us)
Fucked up as a chairman
Scored for derby at Maine road
Not seen the picture people are talking about
Hope he is on

I remember being absolutely obsessed with him completing the takeover and reading a quote that “he was no Jack Walker” but I was so chuffed Swales was out and he was in I didn’t realise the significance of it. Once he started buying cheap players to balance the books the writing was on the wall and as others have said the appointment of Alan Ball was a completely foreseeable disaster.

According to Richer than God, a book wrote in 2012 Lee/Barlow and their consortium's plan was to turn City into a PLC then sell the shares, which is exactly what happened. They made quite a good profit from the sale.

In the late 60s/early 70s I had framed photos of Franny and Colin on my bedroom wall. Franny, like Colin, would play in any Pep team. Franny worked his guts out every game. He was part of the England 1970 team - an upgrade on the 66 world cup winning side. Genuine world class.

Take most things that David Conn writes with a pinch of salt. If he had his way we'd still playing the likes of Lincoln & Walsall.
