It seems to be so transmissible that containing it in one province was always going to be unlikely.

Kaizer Chiefs were due to host Cape Town City tomorrow, but the hosts have 31 employees who have tested positive, so that game and likely others will have to be postponed.
we could be in for a bumpy 6 weeks. It might burn out quickly though before another super variant comes along?

Hopefully the vaccines still protect.

Gauteng latest. Nothing good here, I'm afraid.

Is it a factor of these steep climbing outbreaks that there will be a sharp peak and rapid fall too? That might be better than one that last months but climbs more gently if so. Though I suspect there will be huge health care problems in the S.A. regions and if the world is distracted by their own waves not a lot of aid that can be offered. So the shorter the horror lingers the better perhaps.

Considering 421k were boosted yesterday I think it has already begun to ramp up.
Went for mine today and there was a big queue. Most were people who were probably eligible a while ago. Those S.Africa numbers will be concerning to governments around the world. Gone from 800 a day to 16000 in no time at all.

Had mine at Etihad at half 8 this morning steady trickle, out in under half hour with 15 mins wait see if you don't pop off I reckon.

With Ireland just announcing the news of night club closures until 9th Jan and bars back to table service with max of 6 people do you think that will happen here in England also ? Be the final straw I guess for most people in the hospitality sector.

That's just for Delta. Suppressing cases by keeping cases lower from summer was very definitely a bad idea. - As case numbers across Eastern Europe are proving.

Wahey! The infighting has stopped for a bit! Shame it took Omicron to make it happen. But, in other good news, I would reckon 98% of people at the supermarket today were masked, and even more remarkably >90% of them were wearing it properly - I think that's the best turnout I've seen since the beginning.

Well done Blighty!

Fully enjoyed the table service to be fair. :-)
I detest table service in pubs, always seems more transmission risk if staff have to take your order, bring your pint, give you change etc; far less risk if you pay at the bar, particularly if staff behind a screen and you're wearing a mask.

But I'll put up with whatever it takes to keep pubs trading in some shape.

I see Nicola Sturgen is blaming a Steps concert for Omnicron. A concert where everyone had to be double jabbed. I'm surprised she's not blamed Bojo or the UK government. Anybody but her in fact.
Steps comes as a bit of surprise though.
