Perhaps, but it may be better to suffer just a few more weeks of comedy than more months of tragedy. I suspect it’s the unfortunate timing of Omicron’s arrival that inconveniences us most. God willing by April 2022 we’ll be living in the (new) normal.

OK picture looking clearer - twice as infectious (minimum) with a doubling time of around 3 days in the UK (as opposed to 11 with Delta)
Now this doubling time may be due to a number of super-spreader events so it could be a lot lower.
Covid passports are a waste of time. One person infects over half the attendees (Norway party, Steps concert etc.)

At least a 1/3 as severe (worst case could be a lot better as initial hospitalisations in SA look like they were immune compromised) in terms of hospitalisation and 1/9 as severe in terms of ICU and deaths - very little lower respitory tract infections.

My ‘new‘ was in parenthesis, so I trust that spares me the firing squad...

I find it equally whimsical these days when I hear people say ‘back to normal’. The pandemic has changed our lives irrevocably, so the idea that May 2022 will be just the same as May 2019 now sounds rather fanciful; apart from us sitting top of the league, hopefully. :-)

I agree to a point, But thats also why it would be interesting to hear his take on things. He also comes across as very knowledgeable in this field.
