Not a f1 fan don’t know the rules but that was harsh on Lewis

They effectively decided to have a 1 lap world title with one driver being allowed to race on fresh soft tyres versus the other, who drove a better race, to try and defend on a set of old hard compound tyres....ridiculous

Anyone summarise what just happened. Just following this thread and have no idea what the controversy is.

Lap 57 under a safety car: suddenly the lapped cars are told to get out of the way, and the safety car ends at the same time.
Last lap, lap 58: 1 lap race - Hamilton on old tyres, Verstappen on new tyres. Was only likely to end the way it did.

Hamilton drove a really good race and had a 12 lap gap, cruising to the title.

There was a safety car, Verstappen got a free safety car (normally costs 23 seconds) and then got to restart the race immediately behind Hamilton on brand new soft tyres.

Basically Hamilton was 5-0 up and Max got gifted 4 goals and a penalty.
