Should have been a defining day for F1 going into the future but instead, it’s a debacle of their own making.

The sad thing is they’ve missed a huge opportunity here.

If the race finished under the safety car then it would have been a shite ending but no one, aside from RB, could have complained at the result. Lewis was about 10 seconds ahead with 6 laps left.

If the race would have been red flagged it would have allowed Lewis and Max to battle it out on even tyres for the last 4/5 laps. Again, not perfect for Mercedes but a much fairer outcome than what they did.

Both of these would have gained the sport loads more fans.

However, to reach the outcome they did was a joke IMO. It was nothing short of gifting Max the win in dubious circumstances.

If they applied the rules correctly then Hamilton gets a deserved win.

How is it fair to Verstappen and Red Bull? Invalidate the entire race result. If the result is invalidated the race itself and all placements are also scrapped.

It's messy!

It's the fact that there was a referee who instructed how it worked. It's not just competitors and a clock.

There is no fair resolution to the Masi decision that is fair to both drivers.

The race result should be decided on the position of the cars at the time he made the decision to wave through only some of the cars, ie the race is ended under the safety car.

Hamilton has been the poster boy for F1 for a number of years now brings that showbiz/ celebrity status into the sport via movie stars pop stars other top sports stars and so on,the yank owners will need to find a new star as I don’t see any that they have amongst the young drivers available now and that’s including verstappen great driver but the charisma of a lump of damp wood ..

If the result stands, Mercedes have only themselves to blame. The title is decided over a season and in the first half Mercedes made several strategy calls that cost Hamilton points.

Let’s say the ref incorrectly ruled Aguero offside for 93:20, imagine Var was in place back then and didn’t intervene despite it being a clear error by the official.

Using your logic that’s perfectly fine and we’d only have ourselves to blame as we’d needlessly dropped points earlier in the season due to several questionable calls by Mancini? How fucked up is that

They did legitimately win the race; under the race rules they completed the total distance. If the FIA doesn't believe that their rules were broken (which is what they'll say because it's the FIA) what rules did Red Bull break to take away the race win? They followed the FIA's own rules as were implemented at the time by Masi.

It could be overturned, I just have my doubts given the FIA's history in this area given experience with Ferrari in the 2000's.
