I am amazed anyone would even need to be 'scared' into escaping from a burning building blazing away next door in case it spreads to your house next. Who would tell their family - stay where you are - I have a watering can to put it out if the fire gets to us. Fire engines are not necessary.

Boosters are sensible precautions for a looming emergency that may hopefully never happen. No more. No less.

Tbf the BBC article did state that there was currently no way of knowing if these people were in hospital because of Omicron or happened to test positive in there?

I’ll be getting my booster and cracking on with the Christmas plans/parties etc.

You are right.

You can’t have the booster until you have had your second vaccine and a time period between the 2 has elapsed, 3 months I think?

Doubt he was aiming at those not havng had any vaccination. They are a lost cause imo. If needs be they will be tackled via places like restaurants or theatres or City deciding to lock them out until this is over. Governments cannot persuade them by edict but stopping them from doing things as a business decision by places they frequent to please the majority of their customers might.

This was aimed at those who have HAD two vaccines and are hesitating over a third. There are plenty.

And even one dose of Pfizer gives some protection. About a third I think.

If you had a choice of getting on a plane to Benidorm 3 times more likely to crash than another then which wouild you choose The cheapest? The one painted Sky Blue? Or the safest way to get your family there?

I have done the treble already.

those with vaccine hesitancy will hear that the existing vaccine doesn’t give them much protection. I am treble jabbed and I thought he was negative about the protection from two doses Of the vaccine .

as I said there is quite a time lag from 1st or even 2nd jab to booster . You might think it’s not worth it. It is of course but hey.

my son 15 has had one jab from that press conference I am not taking from that he has much protection against omicron .

don’t forget we are now getting 12 to 15 year olds jabbed , only just started so they have only had one jab . Doesnt give much confidence To kids and parents ?
 
Has the fool announced anything other than encouraging people to get their booster.

Shame these announcements are not from JVT rather than someone with currently so little credibility.
 
Huh, I couldn't book yesterday. Whatever site I chose, it told me there was a problem. I wasn't in a queue tho.

Now I can't get anywhere near chosing a site.

Good luck to anyone who does get an appointment, but excuse me if I'm a bit cynical at them throwing the doors open right this moment, when even over fourties like me were having trouble actually getting an appointment.
 
I am no huge Boris fan but he did tonight what was necessary. Told the truth as far as we know it right now.

If people genuinely think it is pointless having any vaccine because they are only protected a third as well as someone who has had all three because this new variant has mutated then nothing will persuade them that protecting their family this way matters.

Telling fibs to make them get jabbed would only make them more convinced this is all some kind of mind control ploy or whatever else they have decided is the reason to avoid getting the only real weapon we have to fight Covid right now that has been proven to work.

You could, perhaps, if you feel you know better than the London school of hygiene and tropical medicine, lay out for us mortals lacking your intellect, exactly where they went wrong and what the correct analysis is.

Otherwise it might seem that you're just a blowhard.

I’m 34 and it took me about 30 seconds to book my booster today on the NHS website. It’s booked in for the Etihad on Wednesday.

That is certainly a definition. The bit you’ve missed is that it’s open to challenge and dissent. Where most science almost always should exist is in the shades of grey we all should inhabit.
What we are currently doing is repeatedly predicting part of the future looking at the only evidence that suits the answer we already have. Why did Vallance and Whitty, (2 men I respect enormously, by the way), feel they needed to stand behind a graph that was not only out of date but wildly inaccurate? That sort of stuff is what leads people to not trust the independence of experts and allows conspiracy theorists to flourish. Having SAGE relying on ‘behavioural experts’ doesn’t lend itself to seeming independence either.

Minimum of 20 weeks so, by Johnson’s reckoning, you might as well not bother. Not the right message to be giving I’d have thought.….

I can’t even begin to imagine the sorts of nutters who are the types of people to ring in to a 5 Live covid phone-in on a Sunday night.

If it’s anything like the football phone-in, they’ll have all had about 30 pints, and a similar number of brain cells.

Anyone who thinks like that will never be persuaded as I noted earlier. They will scrimp on a flight to Benidorm because their family do not deserve to be on a plane that is safe. And Dell Boy Air wound up with a rubber band is easy and cheap.

It is not even what the science is saying. One dose for those now getting a booster was months ago. 9 months in my case. So the delay means it waned. A first dose now may well give more protection than is even being suggested it might. Nobody is saying one dose now will be useless as far as I can see.
