F1 Season 2021

Hamilton was clinging on for dear life on that last lap and was given a shit sandwich to deal with. One observation, why did he go wide into the corner and let Verstappen get alongside him? Alonso is the master of making his car bigger than it should be, wonder if he would have survived that onslaught?

I'm an LH fan and i was thinking the same thing. Could someone like Alonso with more experience of hanging on done a better job, or maybe, LH is so worried about Max just taking him out that he gives MV too much room?

It was a big gap to send it up the inside on a hairpin. Wonder if it was the tyres dying, he managed to nudge him as well. What a shit show on Sunday but Mercedes do end up on the wrong side of the strategies. Remember back in Turkey when they told him to come in and and he ignored the engineer and kept going on inters.

Keeps it all bubbling before testing starts for next season.

I'm trying to be look at the whole affair critically. I can surmise Masi felt the pressure and cracked.

He doesn't need to be replaced. The FIA should just tweak the rule saying Team Principles STFU whilst racing.

I’d send him for err…. Re-education personally.

Not being an avid follower of motorsport I thought Masi was incompetent or bent, having spoken to a colleague who spends 10s of thousands following the sport I am leaning on incompetent as he was massively under qualified. His past experience was deputy race director of Aussie v8 and Hong Kong prix whatever those are. He was due to start directing F3 races when Charlie Whiting passed away and he got the got the gig basically because he was Australian and they didn’t want to postpone the Australian Grand Prix and the fia then did a United hatchet job and forgot to replace him with a more experienced & skilled race director.
I'm with you on this I am no way an F1 fan but I watched because it was one of those sporting occasions you have to see. I also looked into it afterwards. Yes the man calling the shots was under qualified.

What Timi Glock gave Lewis Hamilton, the gods of fate decided Nicolas Latifi would take back.

I confess that I'm still a bit puzzled. The rules relating to the safety car, written down in black and white as reported on this forum, do not appear to give Masi the leeway that he took. A football referee cannot make up rules during the course of a match. Yes, I'm still puzzled.
Verstappen overtook Hamilton at the death. But Hamilton appears to have given him a generous berth, knowing full well that in the event of a crash, Verstappen took the title anyway.
Verstappen's a hell of a driver. But am I wrong in thinking that it's a shabby way to win a world title?

That’s because the posts are wrong.
The rule book directly contradicts itself over the safety car in two consecutive rules.
The race director also has absolute authority - another rule.
As for shabby, shabby would have been finishing under a safety car.
The race should have been red flagged the moment the driver hit the wall.
That would have allowed for a five lap race from the restart with cars all on new tyres of their choice.

Lance Stroll on board:

Only just seen this but shows what a mess Masi made of it. It's not just the 'ridiculous-ness' of it, it's the safety aspect too.

That’s pretty awful and further down is the actual timeline no wonder drivers and engineers were confused

It’s like a Ref deciding the goalie can’t pick up the ball with the last kick f the match, anyway great game and I’m heading home.

This one is quite long! (19 mins) But how can anyone watch and claim sporting integrity?

team comms from every team basically saying wtf

The tone in Vettel's voice is very telling when his race engineer is about to tell him who won, Vettel says 'I saw'. Could instantly tell he didn't agree with it.

Ricciardo the most telling though, 'I'm glad I'm not a part of that, whatever just happened, that was pretty fucked up'. Basically what every viewer was thinking.
