Coronavirus (2021) thread

Day 4 of quarantine. Symptoms are fading and I’m now just a little bunged up, bit of a fuzzy head and the odd cough. Bored out of my fookin skin like but definitely not ill to any serious degree.

I’ve watched Cape Fear (good), new James Bond (shite) and about to rewatch Dead Man’s Shoes (brilliant). Watched a bit of the cricket earlier and wish I hadn’t and will be hoping the Scouse and Chav bastards lose tonight.

Lost all motivation to do anything productive which is what I’m like when I’m in the house constantly.

Sorry for the rambling about myself think I’ve lost plot.

Any tips on how to keep myself occupied. ????
Good film to watch if you’re a bit groggy, Millionaire Tour (Amazon/dodgy box), only about 85 minutes and not too taxing but a good story.

As mentioned by the author, it's early days, but so far in London it sadly doesn't seem to be going the same way as SA where the ratio of infections to hospital admissions has (thankfully) been broken. Had assumed that London and the rest of the UK would follow the same pattern but early evidence points towards that not being the case.

To the idiot, does this mean that things are ok and the vaccines are working?

Scrolled to the bottom...

'So we are about to find out just how strong that “booster wall” really is. Not a comfortable situation at all: it might still turn out OK, but there’s also ways it might not.'

So no change really.

Sorry, I'm an idiot myself but if I've summarised correctly the thread is less to do with vaccines themselves and more to do with the variant.

Lots of reports in South Africa of not many hospital admissions and that this Omacron wave is different and may be milder.

Unfortunately the early data from London is that the hospital admissions are matching case numbers in the same way they have previously done with Delta etc, so basically contradicting what's coming out of South Africa for whichever reason. Emphasise that it's early days and a few more days data may provide a clearer picture.

She comes across in her interviews as extremely confident. saw one where she basically said that its always mild, old, young, vaxxed, unvaxxed etc.

That would be good news but it's based upon anecdotes and as it stands UK hospitalisations are beginning to rise. We still need to follow clinical evidence and not that reported by a doctor in SA. SA has a very different demographic and different environmental situation on the ground compared to here.

It would be highly unusual and extremely lucky to find ourselves with a highly infectious variant which causes large drops in vaccine efficacy yet which also results in little or no illness whatsoever.

If that turns out to be true then forget boosters and vaccines because then isn't the pandemic effectively over?

Depends on how much cross immunity there is to Delta from infection with omicron.

If there's not much, then Delta continues post omicron, or both continue together.

I like yourself lose motivation when being cooped up in the house. However, push yourself past that and force yourself to be more productive.

I've got a list of little jobs to do whilst I remain in isolation including:

Deep clean the carpets
Clean up yard and karcher patio
Remove and replace silicone around shower tray
Wrap Christmas presents

Not done any as yet though, just sat on sofa listening to 6 music with a brew. :)

I am however going to get my cook on over the weekend. I find cooking is brilliant when looking for something enjoyable and productive whilst cooped up in the house. That and just generally annoying my missus while she works.

Absolutly agree. I originally called her video as being very arrogant about it but changed my mind.
