Just to clarify this, you think there is even an outside chance that historians of medicine in 200 years time are going to make comparisons between pretty light and short social restrictions comparable to every pandemic before it to the planned and industrial genocide of an ethnic group(s), sexual minorities and political opposition totalling 9m people across an entire continent?

I know you've lodged yourself into this argument and you're more likely to dig in deeper here, but do you want to take a step back and have a think about how that looks to the rest of us?
 
Greater Manchester also a record high.

3583 cases today - UP by 86 on yesterday - from the rise of 164 in the NW

That is a bit over expectation. But not by much. Around the same as yesterdy but vastly lower daily increase (it was then up 1106 on the day).

Week to week GM is up by 1943 from 1640 - from the NW rise of 3721.

That is a little over expectation in the split again.

So Greater Manchester is clearly a significant factor in the huge case rises and Omicron outbreaks.

STOCKPORT 398 - DOWN 37 on yesterday & UP 197 on last week POP SCORE 135 (now 18,618)

One of only two boroughs to FALL day on day and easily by the most and still lowest Pop Score across the pandemic though only for a week or so as Bolton is catching up fast.


BURY 324 - up 25 on yesterday & 202 on last week POP SCORE 169 (now 19,627)


WIGAN 319 - up 22 on yesterday & 201 on last week POP SCORE 96 (now 19,638)


BOLTON 304 - up 35 on yesterday & 155 on last week POP SCORE 105 (now 18,807)

Cut the gap to Stockport by 30 to be just 189 behind now for lowest Pop Score across the pandemic

Thank you for your considered response but I'm not going to argue over someone else's interpretation of what they thought I said to which you are now referring !

To clarify I will let social historians draw their conclusions on what as a society we have allowed to happen in this pandemic. I'm sure medical historians and other specialities will have their say too.

It amazes me how passionate Blue Mooners are in challenging any factual errors about City yet roll over and accept blatant lies from Johnson, Whitty and their cohorts.

Each to their own, we all have different opinions but what unites us is our love for this club.

3 deaths - was 9 last week

3129 cases - was 2462 last week (previous two weeks were 2356 & 2927 - so up notably today but no doubling every two days in Wales as yet)

11.9% positivity - was 9.0% last week

368 patients - was 400 last week

35 ventilated - was 37 last week


As yet in Wales a rise but not the exponential growth we are expecting from Omicron and seeing in parts of England - especially London - though possible first hints of it here.

Hospital data - though - like in England - still showing no obvious impact. Early days given the lag built in of a few days but still down week to week.

It pretty much will have everywhere at these rates by New Years Day. We can see it is happening in other southern regions and midlands and north west. In much the same way as London. NW is over 50% now it is thought. It is a VERY rapid riser. Which if it leads to limited hospitalisation and KOs other variants will be a short sharp shock.

Probably why no more restrictions are being rushed in. Way past that. It is now all but unstoppable in England and Que sera, sera.

France shutting off travel from Britain is a bit like the boy sticking his fingers in the dam to stop the flood. Might as well stick them in their ears and go la la la.

Nobody will escape Omicron waves.

What I meant is that if delta decreases to next to zero, we know omicron supersedes it and creates immunity against it.

Then if omicron is mild, we have a huge wave of it and then “normality”.

One can dream.
 
I do not know if you can catch two variants at once. I do not see any obvious reason why not though it would be rare misfortune I expect .

Maybe someone who does can answer whether Omicron becoming dominant could happen without all but eradicating Delta's presence. I assumed one inevitably meant the other.

But I guess with so many Omicron cases .piling up and extensive mixing over the next week or so we will very rapidly know if it is truly milder or simply better reduced by the boosters than the other fears about vaccine lower efficiancy without the boosters were suggesting.

Numbers in hospital are certain to go up a bit. Maybe a lot. Simply as there are far more cases so it has to be much less infective to simply keep pace with where we are as it is escalating fast.

But once it peaks and falls then we might see hospital data tumble if Delta has all but been made extinct and Omicron is truly a bit milder

Personally I am ashamed about the treatment in the UK of the non- Covid sick, the elderly and the young during the last 18 months and I have lost friends and relatives to the adverse reactions to the vaccines, to cancer diagnosed too late as well as to Covid itself.

Hopefully 2022 will be a better year for everyone.

Definition of genocide: the deliberate killing of a large number of people from a particular nation or ethnic group with the aim of destroying that nation or group.

Not really sure that is what is called genocide. Might want to brush up on your sweeping generalisations because what you see being reported isn't always the truth.
