Newcastle United (A) - Post-Match Thread

Well taken goal by Cancelo and baby Kev’s pass to Mahrez superb.
Loved the ground covered by Razza for the fourth too.
Four away goals and a clean sheet
Thank you City - love this club.
Nothing like a player scoring against the suitors. See if they can come up with the four hundred thousand million dollars to try to buy Our Raz in January forward slash the summer

From their first games for us I could see exactly why Pep signed Cancelo and Rodri. The Pep effect on all our players is mind blowing. If there are better players in world football in their positions than Cancelo and Rodri then I haven't seen them.

announcement on Christmas Day Pep has signed a 5 year extension would be nice :) plus it would ruin reds Christmas

It wasn't a vintage performance but let's be honest, this is what champions do - not at their best and come away with a 0-4 win.

We're in a fantastic position now and it's looking like Chelsea are mysteriously stalling after a good start. One thing about City is that we're a machine once we get going. Sure, we'll lose the odd game but I can't see us losing more than 2 games until the end of the season.

I've been a big critic of Sterling for a while now and in truth, I would still sell him. However, he does look like he's finding his timing for runs again and when he's like that he scores goals. It will be like a new signing if he can keep it up.

As for Newcastle, they are going down aren't they. They don't look bad, but just can't buy a win at the moment. They will be the team who will feel they were "unlucky" because of all the "if the Wilson header went in and we got the penalty" type moments. If they go down, it's because of years of mismanagement.

I half jokingly said after they sacked Bruce that he was the man to get you out of a relegation battle as he's done it before and did well to keep that side up for a few years given they've not spent much. I'm not sure what more Howe can do with them, unless they manage to bring in some absolutely top class mercenaries.

Anyway, great win against a team who've been awkward at times up there. Great win, top of the league, others dropping points.

Merry Christmas Blues! :)

It amazes me how Pep can take pretty much any player and make him world class. I think it's fair to say that Rodri and Cancelo took a little while to adapt to Pep's style, but they are phenomenal players.

He truly is the greatest manager in the world and I bet all the players on the training ground realise it.

Having a one week break before the tight christmas schedule would do wonders for us. Leicester has to play midweek while we have a week to prepare for them and Brentford.

Liverpool and Chelsea have midweek games this week and they have to play continuously. Chelsea are struggling right now and they have to play aston villa away next. I expect them to drop more points there.

That first goal was absolute comedy gold - from the warm-up, when the goalie wittily knocked it out of play for a corner, to the devastiting "After you Claude..." routine between him and the defender, when they left it on a plate for Diaz to head in.
Followed a bit later by the Ederson slide into the centre forward and upend him gag, as Cancelo slalomed away from the 2 of them, and then - for his goal - he basically sat 2 of them down, then another 2 parted the curtain to let his thunderbastard ripple the net. As fantastic as it was hilarious.
Mahrez then applied his Algerian math's expertise in logarithms or something to calculate to the Nth degree how to stay onside as he beautifully volleyed home the third, just to rile up the locals with a VAR decision which went in our favour AGAIN (Take note all you conspiracy theorists).
Then, after spending most of the 2nd half reliving his worst days of the past 5 months, Sterling sprints in as if the clock had been turned back to 2017/18 to slot home a beautiful move and brilliance on the ball by Jesus, working his daily miracle.
And then to cap it all - we get a ton of sour grapes from Klopp and Tuchel " The ref...Cane sending off... penalty this; penalty that; covid; everything should be called off; null and void - City can't go clear before Christmas!?"
Yes they can boys. 3 points clear of 2nd; 6 points clear of 3rd. Both have to come to the Etihad within a month - bring it on!

Just wanna say thanks to the city fans who made me son (19) piss himself laughing at the chants today, 0-4 and he’s happy as a pig in shite older members will know what this meant to us. Some great times at Maine road 0-0 around 87? Dear me how bad was that.2-1 city around 94 was in with the home fans and had a scream until the bus left without us, moss side on a Saturday teatime , great days .do them lads ya proper footy fans

Horrible journey up there, heavy fog and traffic. Parked in nearby multi story £3… bargain. Got to the entrance for the disabled/lift, there were 3 of us, no covid checks and unbelievably no ticket checks on any of us. They just opened a gate, let us in and showed us to the lift. Needn’t have bothered buying a ticket!

The match played out as I expected, Newcastle huffed and puffed but didn’t really threaten, we bossed the first half without really getting out of 2nd gear; and a bit sloppy at times. Much better 2nd half and we deservedly ran out 4-0 winners. Jesus had a great assist, but apart from that was below par… he missed two sitters (headers), but worked hard. Newcastle are in big trouble… “All that money and you’re going down” taunted the blues in the Gods. All in all a good day with the pretenders both dropping points.

Same as you mate. We used the disabled entrance /lift because my lad has a football injury and is in a wheelchair. I got covid checked but not my match tickets.
