Irish Current Affairs

Not looking back is what's needed I agree. In a way its good to see another party become strong down here, our last two governments have been a disgrace, the two main parties together in government, just a pity its sf but I'm hoping for the best as I said earlier she'd buy and sell most of our current leadership.
Isnt it funny how down there, SF are kind of new force....whilst up here, i'd say its the opposite

She's bullish and in a way, i reluctantly "respect" how she seems to like shaking things up. Ive been very vocal about moving forward and dare i say, forgetting what has happened in the past...afterall, thats pretty much the crux of the Good Friday Agreement....however, i just cant passed SF...in the same way i cant get passed the DUP.
I wish we had all new leaders to move us forward, but unfortunately we have far too many parties as it is!
Coming at it from an English persepctive...after I moved here I did wonder who on earth I would or could vote for.
Initially, I was fairly fortunate in that I could vote for John Hume, but other than him the whole bickering divided and divisive politics here was very disappointing and off putting.
I must admit at the last election though and with no eamon McCann to vote for I, for the first time ever, walked into the polling station , put a X on the paper...NONE OF THE ABOVE....I just couldnt quite bring myself to vote SF, I certainly couldnt bring myself to vote for any of the others on offer in my consituency.
BUT....as has been said, there does need to be some moving forward andf looking at what people and parties represent NOW....and I have to admit that SF could well get my vote in future as they do seem like a genuinely democratic and progressive party.
As much as I wasnt a fan...it was said that Trump was a "disruptor" and i see SF as doing that down south. You would think that the traditional Unionist parties would take a look at what they are doing and realise they are being outflanked by SF all the time with them, pretty much like FF/FG failing to modernise and adapt.

Youve always got Colum Eastwood up there....i like him. John Hume would approve :-)

What’s your insight into the last couple of days mate?
I despair.
Not just about up north or down here, but WTF is happening to the UK?
Hearing them (DUP) on the RTE news blatantly disagreeing with the facts of their actions over the past couple of years that got us to this point and continuing down the road of blaming Dublin and the EU, primarily for the mess they voted for and the government they propped up that signed off on this agreement.

They are total hypocrites and there is nothing democratic about them. The ‘D’ should be removed from their party name. The irony that the only thing protecting them is the GFA and yet they would willingly destroy it to go back to how things were in the good old days of having their own way.

I honestly don’t know where this is going.
AWG would have a better handle on feelings up North.

Despair is a profound word.
Its how many of us feel. WTF is happening to the U.K.? It’s imploding mate, bit by bit. Let’s hope it doesn’t take Ireland with us. You have more friends than us though. The behaviour and incompetence of our Government is beyond words.

The Union is what makes us whole. At the moment however and with great regret I have to say its probably in the best interests of NI to unite with the republic and for Scotland to leave because this lot are just trampling all over them and its shit.

The case may not remain and it could be that if we can rid ourselves of this toxic Govt and the ship could right itself but at the moment Johnson and Co and taking us down and I can understand why they wouldn't want to take to the lifeboats with us
