Not those that have tested positive within the last week (which is about half my family). I assume they’ve had Omicron. My daughter only knew she had it from a PCR. Didn’t feel ill, lateral flows tests negative.
 
This data is sourced from the NHS Admissions site.

It shows that the rate of increase in the London admissions is slowing whilst nationally it is accelerating although perhaps the variance / spread in the data might lead to over-interpretation.

It is though consistent with infection data which shows declines in the epidemic in London (have a look at London, and individual London boroughs on gov.uk). We need a few more days data to be sure it is falling but it looks to me as if London is at its peak or is declining already (hospitalisations lag infections).

You should be sceptical. I am a little.

I know loads who have caught it the past couple of weeks too. One was me and agree that for the vast majority of us it was no more than a mild cold, if that. However, I do know 2 people who have had it worse than that. One is triple jabbed and he said he was rough for a couple of days with it but he’s not had Covid before whereas I have. The other - somewhat amusingly - is an anti-vaxx Covid-denier and apparently he’s been rough as fuck - throwing up and getting the shits.

I think it’s clear now that Omicron for many people is mild. However, I also think that immunity through vaccination helps play a part in that mildness, and if you also have immunity through past infection (as I had and many others I know) on top of your jabs then even better.

Weirdly, a mate tested positive on a LFT on Boxing Day morning and had to miss the Leicester game. Went for a PCR next day and it came back negative. Could it have been a false positive? I thought those were very rare and far less common than a false negative, or maybe he was at the back end of infection when he returned the positive LFT.

I know quite a few people either with it or just got over it.
All had very mild symptoms.
That's why I think this reaction is totally over the top
 
There are numerous factors at play here but I think a major one is that as recently as 2-3 weeks ago Delta was still the dominant varient in most of the country and this is still feeding in hospitalisations and deaths. Delta has now been almost entirely replaced by Omicron and soon we will have the real picture of how dangerous it is or not.

another is a work colleague who could barley breath enough to explain why he needed to go off sick the week before Xmas.

One, if not more, of the more poorly people has probably had delta rather than omicron.

Prior to 2020, I suspect that if we’d been testing over a million people a day for colds and flu, we would have seen over 100,000 cases a day, from November to March!
 
I'm currently in the Salisbury in town and its absolutely dead. There are about 8 punters in and they're not expecting it to get any busier.

I'm in Tenerife and everywhere is rammed. So much so that due to restrictions on capacity they're turning people away. Bars open until 1am.

And unlike a year ago, when we couldn't go to pubs (bars and restaurants too) the Government furloughed staff. But they (and the media) have basically scared people from going this year. The businesses take the hit. Many won't have the usual Xmas/NYE turnover to see them through the usual Jan/Feb/March quiet period, and many closures are expected in the industry, with many redundancies.

As for the £6k promised, I know one restaurant that has already lost £150k in trade already .... pathetic, 'help'.

While I agree with most of that , where I live 3 pubs are shut tonight through lack of staff , 2other pubs are restricting numbers and shutting well before midnight.

It’s almost as if NYE is a little bit shit and people are hitting house parties rather than pubs.
