The Colston Four

Why are you really arsed though, really?

Loads of stuff goes unpunished, some people get away with vile crimes, there is a shit ton of injustice right across the world.

A few young people dunked a statue of a **** and the jury, after hearing all the evidence and testimony, found them not guilty; I'm happy enough with that and certainly not losing any sleep over it.

Life goes on.
I'm arsed because the country is going to the shitter and turning a blind eye to criminal damage is fuel that numpties need to carry on .

Clearly, there are differences of opinion, but having watched the event on TV and the purpertrators admitting doing it, something is clearly wrong with the judicial system for them not to be found guilty. Anyway, game on

They didn't admit to criminal damage, otherwise there wouldn't have been a trial.
And obviously they admitted to dunking the **** in the water, cos to deny that would have been beyond stupid.

A jury of their peers found them not guilty.
In the history of miscarriages of justice, this shouldn't even register on anyone's radar.
Unless....you know....said person is perhaps a little fond of that particular inanimate object.

Very strange thing for anyone to get worked up over, but as you say there are differences of opinions.

The defence gave the jury three lawful ways to acquit them though. You might disagree with the jury, although no one on here has heard the full defence argument or the jury’s discussions to know which they found persuasive.

I would have suggested a middle ground. Find them guilty with a token sentence but award them 50k each to reward them for the significant value increase to the statue their actions caused…;)

I equally find it strange that some are happy they were acquited, when clearly they were responsible for damaging property, but hey ho life would be boring if we all agreed

It got a bit wet, granted.
Bit of paint on it too.

And now it's worth shit loads of money, and resides in a museum where it always should have been.
At least them taking action into their own hands (rightly or wrongly) sped up the process of getting the slave trading **** off a glorifying plinth.

I'm happy that our justice system, lauded by many, did it's job; evidence was heard and a jury reached a verdict accordingly. That's pretty much the be all and end all.

Personally I just think there’s a lot bigger things to worry about than a bunch of protestors damaging a statue of a slave trader and a jury finding them not guilty, the governments willingness to both break the law themselves and to disingenuously attack the process when it returns a decision it doesn’t like being prime examples.

No it isn’t.

This is why.

Oh yeah.....

Clearly, and if you agree that in this case the correct decision was made that's fine, but there is clearly a furor over this decision.

it matters not whether you agree with the decision or are happy to get swept along by the anti jury trial brigade the fact is the only peoples decision that actually matters are the 12 jurors
