I don't see why they'd bring back Burns.

The problem with him is he doesn't score and he's out within 2 overs most of the time.

Hameed can't score but at least he's hanging around for long enough for the new ball to wear off more often than not. Malan and Root fucked up today, but the middle order is where England have batsmen, and if the openers can just see off 15-20 overs then the middle order has a chance.

Hameed heads gone like burns did and why he was dropped problem is there ain’t any openers out there in that bubble.

I think we need to factor in runs also.
The more we score the longer the Aussies need to bat.
No good just hanging about using up time and not scoring.
As @waspish says though the weather could be the salvation.

As I see it, and assuming no rain, England need about another 50 really which may be a stretch, and then it comes down to whether Australia play to not lose or to try to win. That way Australia have to decide whether to aim for 250 ahead and have a go, or bat England completely out of it.

An immediate crumble to give them 140 lead, and they only need 150 ish runs and set England 300.

I wish we could press a button and just listen to the sledging.

Broad is calling Lyons a **** at the moment. In my head anyway.

Never watched a ball last night my only main surprise is we got to stumps for no wickets down!

Leach getting them wickets means he be picked again :(

Only the rain can save us need it to rain for half the overs tomorrow.

So utterly predictable apart from a bit more fight.
Didn’t add enough runs or take more time/overs out of the game.
Not losing a wicket at the end of day is a very minor achievement and just shows how low we are.
Hope the weather does not intervene and we comfortably get a draw.

Just put the highlights on and saw pope have a great catch as the wicket keeper didn’t ever know he can wicket keep! Will England consider him as an option now?

Looks like The Aussies want Leach in the next test match good tactics.

On serous not I don’t rate Leach but if the England do he should be playing every game end of then he might improve a bit at the moment keep bringing him in now and again isn’t doing him any good.

He kept a bit in South Africa a couple of years ago too if I remember rightly. They've brought Billings in from the Big Bash so I'd imagine he'll play?

I was driving back from Swindon last night so didn't see any of it - did Stokes, Buttler and Bairstow all not play yesterday?

No idea never watched it but pope was a super sub because buttler and Bairstow have a broken finger

not making 300 again and now its 7 innings and counting ?
97 overs tomorrow and england only need 358 around 4 runs a over. we are good at ODI cricket send them out in ODI mode what have we got to lose ??

Ten wickets…

Would be more realistic to see England play out the Test. Australia’s bowlers must be a little tired and the series is won, but one can’t help feel that if it stays dry, Lyon might have another ‘fifer’ in him.

yep enough of ODI wicket keepers and batsman get ben foakes in and leave him in. then get parkinson in as the spinner and leave him in. 2 easy choices to make in my book
Would like to see them both go to the Caribbean as the rebuild begins. Could make a case for Livingstone as well. The timing of the IPL (overlapping both of England’s next series) will likely influence who tours.

i would go with a strong hand from the ECB board and say to the players. if you turn down the tour to the west indies over the IPL then you banned for 2 years from test cricket simple. you then see who is in test cricket for the right reasons.

the ECB have to build again for that series and take a fresh and young squad with a new captain.
so what if we lose ? it could not get any worse than what is happening in austraila ? i think the english fans would take losing with a new young team than seeing the old farts scared of bounce and beaten before they walk out
