As an Englishman I’m unhappy we don’t have our own parliament and just get swept up into the UK government.Stupid idea to give Scotland and Wales their own Parliaments, without giving England the same option. Stupid idea from Tony Blair, who also cost a lot of British lives and limbs and mental health, in those imaginary weapons of mass distruction, and who has just been knighted. I am no fan of Boris, but a few parties in Downing Street seem like small fry in comparison. That said, those parties were an abomination and so insensitive.
We should have an assembly somewhere in the midlands or north that should have the same powers Holyrood does.
I think we’ve got the bad end of the stick in this union.

Dentists are oral surgeons, so doctors who specialize in that part of the body. In Leitch’s case, he is also an academic doctor, so I think he meets the job criteria.He is a dentist. Can you get a sick note from him? No. He is not a doctor.

Not sure the two are connected. Nobody outside of England is stopping the country having an English parliament. There just doesn’t seem to be demand in England for one. Some people favour greater regional autonomy, some people want a separate English parliament, and some people want the current situation to continue. If the Union does dissolve, then there would be a de facto English parliament, but that would ignite debate over whether it should remain at a refurbished Westminster or be relocated elsewhere.I think many want it but as an issue way down the list.

It’s really not worth going down the economics of it all, if you gained true independence then any current figures are not that relevant. Your GDP and tax take will be dependent on how successful Scotland as a nation becomes which is how it should be.Yes we would be down £11b. We give £79b in and we get £30b back. The true potential will take years to be clear so the question will always be are you happy being governed in the main by Westminster Parliament. A Scottish Parliament was always a half way house that suited no one long term.
Hopefully next time your fellow countrymen and women will be able to be less risk averse and take the plunge.
I think the SNP should hold their own referendum next year, I don’t think it should be done any later than this you need the Tories to be in power and royally fucking things up to help the cause.

Agree but there has to be an acceptance that we are literally ran by a left wing, socialist SNP up here and when the Scottish NHS is failing miserably on waiting times or the Scottish Ambulance service is literally surviving by having the army drive them or our schools are shit and drug deaths are at a all time high and council tax is going up and we ever increasing levels of child poverty etc.
The SNP and their policies run all those services here.

For clarity mate, we have a great life up here and unlike a few on here, life in Scotland and the UK is a very good one and fairly privileged. We both work, not huge wages but a household income of £50k a year and our kids enjoy school, so very well, we want for nothing really and frankly don’t recognise the hell hole some describe the UK/Scotland as on a daily basis?

Left, right, there is no magic wand. No simple answers to real world problems and there never will be.
Life is tough. It will always very sadly leave some behind but for the vast majority, it’s actually pretty good and it’s good regardless of the political parties running us because the reality is, nothing much will or ever changes.

Nowt much has changed, what has is not for the better and all we have is arguments and issues no one really faced up to or accepted.

just look at the social democracies of Northern Europe for as much evidence as you like that good government can make an enormous difference to public wellbeing.
