Chelsea (H) - Post-Match Thread

They actually got their tactics spot on, which was to try and keep it tight and nick it later in the game with their forward subs.

The biggest problem we had for at least at an hour was Lukaku following Rodri around everywhere and blocking his passing lane when we tried to come out from the back.

Sterling was very good in the first half and while Kev will rightly take the plaudits for a magnificent goal, the running of Bernie and Walker in the second half was nothing short of incredible.

Grealish needs a big moment and he blew it when it came, but he kept working hard.

Stones was dodgy in the first half hour, but Laporte really was immense today.

I've given him stick but he was dominant in the air and positionally excellent, especially the late block from the pull back.

Would put Eric, Bernie and Walker as my picks.

As for Phil, please don't play him again in the false nine, everything he touched turned to shit today. Poor by his high standards.
Spot on with Laporte, I have given him grief this season but he was superb today, we did not miss Dias, that says everything about his and Stones performance.

Great performance by the team today against a determined Chelsea. No team is going to play a perfect 10 game. 11 players on the pitch at any time gave us 3 points against our nearest rivals. That's the only story in town tonight.

They're a good team. The second best in the league, in my honest opinion. It's testimony to how we play and what we can do to teams that go toe to toe with us that they played like that. Tuchel's a canny coach, and given what else is around, we could do a lot worse than getting him when Pep finally goes.
I thought they were very good, kept the ball well and pressured us all over the pitch, but still hardly had a shot, think this goes down as a superb City team performance.

Agree with your summary here. Actually thought there were a few stray passes by all the team at various points, a number of them were caught on the ball too. Despite all that we were by far the better team, even though we were not at are beat we were by far the superior team. Kev's goal was just fantastic.
I think the misplaced passes and losing the ball has been going on for a few games now, hopefully Pep and the lads will soon get it sorted out. Still trying to work out how the Chelsea manager thinks his team deserved a draw though.

So what’s that wanker Jake humphries had to say about it? Hope he’s fuckin gutted!
He was just about to start pushing the “it’s not fair narrative” then they had some tech issues in the studio & had to wrap the show early, pissed meself laughing

“Mind the gap mind the gap
Cockney bastards,
Mind the gap mind the gap I say

Cockney bastards
Playing football guardiola’s way”

when they
villa and others
sing
" champions of europe ,you'll never sing that "
we.know ,like they do its just a matter of time.

but why dont we reply

," domestic treble ,you' ll never sing that "

fergie said it was impossible ,yet we did it.

lets throw it back at all the cunts

we actually did a domestic quadrople, vut lets not get cocky

up the blues...
Think the best reply is to sing we don’t give a shit.
or as I tell my villa supporting friend that the last time they won a Cup I saw the result on ceefax

Superb result and, despite the scoreline,an absolute schooling without our inspirational leader.

Bernie was outstanding,MOTM

Particularly pleased with Sterling, first half more so....he has the hunger and desire again, and is looking like the player of 3 seasons back - i'll be more than happy if that version signs a new contract.

Laporte also impressed, his presence was crucial and he took on the mantle of leader in Ruben's absence.

Mention for Foden too,he ran himself daft and looked knackered at the end,i thought he maybe should have come off 10 mins earlier.

An awesome day at the office.

Just a question that I'm sincerely curious about, for anyone who was at the match, and who was approximately level with it: Lukaku's shot (Chelsea's one shot on target) that Ed saved. My strong impression was that Lukaku was marginally offside when the ball was played through to him, so it wouldn't have counted anyway. But the camera angle on tv didn't make it possible to be conclusive about it. Am I wrong? Was he on?
Pretty sure he was on.

fare enough
but the champions league and before it the european cup is a lottery

unlike a domestic treble

its never ever been done since footy began till we did it

just a thought

You could be a wee while working out the reasons they deserved a draw lol
