BBC licence fee

Taking everything into account, I like the BBC.

It’s a shame we will end up destroying it, but destroying things is pretty much our answer to everything these days.
This is what the tories do Brexit has wrecked this country I doubt there would be few to dispute this, This is just another in the long line of undermining democracy and destroying the fabric that holds this country together,

Its sad to think of all these knuckle draggers jumping on the bandwagon are the same fools who were conned into the Brexit.

Dorris just tried to the Kill the BBC.

There's the distraction and the governments way of telling them to back off the lockdown parties. Sky/GB news will also be hitting the wank wall thus relegating the blowback.

The BBC does so much unnoticed yet it's embarrassing rolling news coverage ruins it.

Lots of programming would never have aired if it wasn't for the licensing system.

Their free education websites are probably the best in the world.

Nadine Dorries, who is presiding over the abolition of the license fee, is as thick as mince, isn't she?

she is mistaken there - music will not be damaged by "lefties" - the Govt have already killed the business off by providing virtually no support during the pandemic for artists and venues and then when negotiating with the EU saying no thanks when they offered a reciprocal Visa arrangement which would have allowed for continued touring in the EU because they didn't want foreign acts to retain FoM to the UK. Its on them.

It's good if they are looking into scraping the fee. It's beyond ridiculous it's a law you have to pay to watch TV even if you never even watch BBC. People can scream British institution and value for money all they want but there is no way to convince me that forcing people to pay yet another fucking bill every year or the BBC send the bully men to your door is a good idea.

I used to work in social housing and I remember when they scrapped free TV Licences for pensioners and I used to have them on the phone crying and terrified cos they couldn't afford it and they had men turn up at their door saying they'd take them to court.

The BBC will still remain one of the most watched stations even if they add adverts and advertisers will be tripping over themselves to get a slot so the BBC will still remain funded, probably earn more than they are now. A few minutes of adverts while you go make a cup of tea is a small price to pay to save people paying yet more money

Already loads of adverts on the BBC paid for by the licence fee. Glad they are scrapping it, no one cares abouts Sports Personality of the Year and Blue Peter, or people like Attenborough with huge carbon footprints pretending to save the planet.

Would make sense to spin them off.

BBC News (or whatever it calls itself) can broadcast in designated slots on the main Beeb under licence and have it's own channels but they have different management and company structures.

You do realise that an unfunded BBC will be a smaller BBC - if you want to replace anything you have lost it will not be free. The net result it will be pay more get less. Old people won't face a theoretical fine or imprisonment but will face their dotage with very little audio or visual entertainment unless they can afford to pay through the nose for it - everyone will get less access to news coverage too - wonder why that would suit a government?

And tell you what if the BBC becomes subscription only then they will apply that to radio too. When that happens other entities like Global will think " well hey we aren't putting out for free " and introduce a subscription too.

iPlayer, All4 any currently free to access catchup TV service will be too.......all will be fine it will be just what few services do you want for £20 per month

And this is the shit for brains far right knuckle dragging idiot is in the cabinet???
Good job comrade Corbyn didn't win the last election as we would now have the likes of Diane Abbott, David Lammy and Angela Rayner in cabinet. I'm no Tory but the standard of the current parliamentary Labour party at present is shameful. The BBC needs to reform as its current funding model is way out of date in the current digital age.

I thought you needed a tv licence to legally watch BBC iplayer. Happy to be corrected.

Image having that people who like Lammy and Reynolds MP's who wear there heart on sleeves. Who have been brought up on council estates leaving school at 16 to have a child. What possibly could they have in common with the rest of us born out of wealth privately educated at the finest education institutions.

The BBC has reformed its not the institution that needs its the ideologically driven government instructed by their paymaster Murdoch to destroy the BBC needs kicking out.

IN my younger days I never really got the BBC mainly through ignorance and naivety I never appreciated how importance. I love BBC R4 and an avid listener to the Today program and PM. I also enjoy podcasts from BBC and watch some of the BBC programs.

As someone has already said it will only be when its gone when we are gas lighted by what ever propoganda Murdoch chooses for us.

Most of Europe has some form of TV licence.

A notable "democracy" that doesn't is the USA, quality subscription free news isn't there to push back against Fox and One America.

Is it any surprise that people are so detached from reality that they believe they have to save America from a cult of paedophiles when they live in a world of “alternative facts and fake news“?

The link shows most of Europe doesn't, around 2/3rds doesn't.
