Cressida Dick resigns

The same that would have grinded your gears perhaps had this chap won?

It’s utterly tiresome to watch any criticism of the London Mayor immediately attempted to be shut down with claims of racism. It’s lazy but an easy game to play…

As a mayor he is shit. He has presided over the worst knife crime and youth murder rates imaginable. He deserves criticism for that, regardless of his race or politics.

Is he responsible for cutting the budget of the Met?

Buck stops at the top!

The Mayor of London, as occupant of the Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime (MOPAC) is required by law to produce a plan that explains how the police, community safety partners and other criminal justice agencies will work together to reduce crime.

The Police and Crime Plan reflects the Mayor’s manifesto and priorities for making London a safer city for all Londoners and the Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime (MOPAC) is the strategic oversight body tasked with devising the Police and Crime Plan and ensuring that it is delivered over four years.

Id suggest his plan isn’t very good and the crime stats would back that assertion up.

Perhaps some more funding might be of use then?

Can you tell me who is responsible for cuts in police funding?

And cuts in youth services?

The Met had a budget of £2.966B in 20/21 and that rose to £3.075B for 21/22, giving them the biggest spend per head of population of any force at £344.

Maybe his plan, under his leadership as Mayor isn’t very good?

Her going was the right thing but it will do her good to be out of the pressure cooker. She now looks 20 years younger not having all that baggage weighing her down.

The second she announced the investigation into partygate she was toast and rightly so imo as she clearly allowed her force to be used for political gain as the PM and Tory party saw a way of delaying what is inevitable.

It was stupid of her and of course, a Labour Mayor would immediately lose confidence in her.

No disagreement there. The plod at no10 are equally as complicit.

Just saying she now looks to have had the weight of the world taken off her shoulders.

With a near £250k a year salary comes pressure.

The next political appointment will shoulder the exact same political pressure.

Once you get to the very top of any of our uniformed services they are very much political appointments. Thankfully the new met commissioner has to be someone both Johnson and khan agree on - a good thing because they are both fuckwits who I wouldn't like to have sole say on it.

Sadly, I don’t think that will be the case.
You are probably correct, but it's a big gamble. Should it be watered down and then a leak appears to say the Met have done that, then the Mets credibility, as well as Johnson's will plummet further, giving Labour and the media the all the ammo they need

Hardly relevant, when you see someone so clearly not fit for purpose and a danger to our population it is reasonable to comment
Why is he personally a "danger to the population" compared to what this current government is doing starving people out of their homes and taking away our rights to protest against it?

That really is tough on the Federation - the Mayor is an elected official so whether they like him or not he remains Mayor. Its a bit worrying that the Police "union" seeks to be political like this. Maybe they should concentrate on doing their jobs catching wrong 'uns and locking them up as they seem to be failing with the very basics
