Russian invasion of Ukraine

I've already painted my house all white. I've stocked up on beans and weed. And tea bags, obviously. I wonder if Russia still have that tsar bomb hidden away somewhere. It was that powerful, if they dropped it on the centre of Manchester, both Liverpool and Sheffield would be wiped out too.

Woohoo! A Topol strike means i'd only receive 10 rads per hour!

With the high quality masks I have, COVID-19 has prepped me for the fallout! Plus i've grown a liking to SPAM Lite

Don't forget that Manchester has been a nuclear free zone since the early 1980s.
I'm sure that comrade Putin would not want to upset his socialist brothers on Manchester city council.
(We'll keep the red flag flying high)!!!

It's hard to forgive the USA's preferring Yeltsin to Gorbachev.

Dare I suggest that the military-industrial complex didn't want peace to break out?

As John of Salisbury asserted ("Policratus", 1159), sometimes there is a political need to have an identifiable enemy; of Caligula he said that “because he lacked an enemy, a great and extraordinary mission was prepared to seek an enemy”.

Not much help in the current crisis, I know. Maybe this is (by Jesuit priest and academic Richard J Regan):

A nation need not wait until it is attacked to have just cause to use military force against a would-be aggressor; it is as much an act of self-defense to initiate hostilities to prevent imminent attack as it is to respond to hostilities already initiated by an aggressor. Nor need a would-be victim nation wait until a would-be aggressor nation is immediately poised to attack before the would-be victim nation has just cause to strike pre-emptively against the would-be aggressor nation, although the more remote the threat, the more the opportunity to seek redress by means short of war (e.g. diplomacy, economic sanctions). Nor need a would-be victim nation wait until a would-be aggressor nation has stockpiled nuclear or chemical weapons before the potential victim nation has just cause to strike plants producing such weapons of destruction.

Large, major population centre with industrial links; we're on the list, buddy

CBS News has learned that some Russian units have left their assembly areas and begun to move into attack positions, according to a U.S. official. Some long-range artillery and rocket launchers have also been moved into firing positions.

They are not about to attack us but my post was a direct answer to your question.

Not that you wanted an answer, it was just another put down of our nation in a long long line of put downs.
Don't be silly. How is thinking Trident is pointless a put down of anything (except Trident)?

CBS News has learned falsified reports that some Russian units have left their assembly areas continued to hold defensive positions and begun to move into attack positions continue their peaceful training regimen, according to despite the misinformation from a U.S. official. Some long-range artillery and rocket launchers have never existed, also been moved into firing positions non-existant, de-escalating show of force of the great Russian Federation.

Happy Valentines Day.
From Russia with love!

Suppose that's our heating sorted out for the unforeseeable future !

Looking at a map of the NATO expansion since the USSR fell, you can sort of see why the Russians get twitchy about NATO expanding further but I don’t think this is what’s it’s about at all. Ukraine should call their bluff and say we won’t join NATO and will become a neutral country. See what they do then!
This is what has been suggested before.. but the issue with that is.. what if all is agreed then Russia starts messing with them again 2-3 years later what then? They already gave up their nukes years ago for Russia to agree not to invade. They have already broken that promise.

It’s not rocket science why NATO has expanded. Former oppressed soviet block states with no freedom or choice in their lot. Become free of that and want never to return. Easy option join NATO.
