Another one who hasn’t got a clue how NATO is funded.
The operational costs of NATO are funded proportionally to each members GDP and everyone contributes a fair amount.
What Trump was talking about was individual country’s defence budgets and was deliberately incorrectly conflating it with paying for NATO, then making out that everyone owed the US money. It was bullshit then and it still is. Some NATO members should undoubtedly spend more on their own defence, and they had committed to up their spending to 2% by 2024. I suspect that after this those countries will get their spending up rather quicker than they would have done.

This shows spending vs the recommended 2%.

It is true that most don’t hit the 2% and before the US started throwing their weight around a few years ago it was worse, but it wasn’t Trump that fixed it.

The only time people should be mentioning trump in this thread is to remember he illegally withheld $400m of military aid from Ukraine and blackmailed Zelensky demanding he fabricate stories about Joe Biden to help him win the election before he got them.

Rumours that China will abstain which is as good as we will ever get to them not agreeing with Russia who will of course use their veto.
