Russian invasion of Ukraine

Ukraine should just offer assurances that it won’t request to join NATO. The west won’t fight a nuclear war over Ukraine and they don’t stand a chance by themselves. Better to take the pragmatic position for the benefit of its population.

Why would anyone believe that Putin would care what Ukraine said?

Under 20 years ago, Russia agreed to recognise Ukraine's sovereign borders. They didn't care about that, an agreement they signed up to.

As much as nukes may have prevented war due to MAD this is the other side of the coin where everyone sits on their hands and let’s Russia do what they want out of fear of what would happen if they stepped in. Fucking ridiculous this is happening in this day and age.

Erm joint forces just left a country to be overun by extemists, nations have watched several african countries be decimated by civil wars and tutted at a military junta taking over burma while having good relations with a military dictatorship in thailand and murderous loons run brasil and the philippines

this shit happens all the time in this day and age.

Effectively concede to Putin’s demands and deny Ukraine its right to join NATO. When did we become so weak and cowardly.

Or maybe just go old school and judge the government by what it’s (not) doing right now?

I don’t really care about people taking ex-pat Russian money when the world is at peace, as long as that doesn’t interfere in foreign policy when Russia tries to start a major war.

All political donations have strings attached, but at some point you’ve got to cut those strings and do your job.

Ah yes, they sent Liz Truss to Moscow cosplaying as a Russian in her Cossack hat. Can't believe didn't work.

Call his bluff. What do they have to lose?

As a nato member any aggresion on nato soil, even accidently is not gonna go without issues.

Go on then, what issues would arise?

NATO isn’t going to start all out world war over a wayward missile, so what would really happen? Bluster, lots of “now this is your last warning” etc.

Poland is part of NATO

We let this shit happen all the time.
This is actually fairly minor compared with many of those examples I suppose.

Why because of a bully Ukraine has every right to join nato like we have, we don’t live in the 1940’s where one man can try and invade a sovereign country
