I wonder if they are misguided in their thinking on this. Seems to me that there is almost universal support for whatever measures need to be taken. People recognise that higher fuel costs and maybe some other hardships are a very very small price to pay in order to maintain peace in Europe. What is the alternative? Allowing Russia to take Poland, Sweden and any other non-Nato countries he fancies? Or how about all out war?
If we need to have a few power cuts or whatever, this is IMO well worth it. And as I have said before, if the government can find hundreds of billions to protect us from the effects of COVID, then surely it can find a few billion to subsidize energy bills for a short period.
