Yes, it's very odd that the Russians don't have complete air superiority - the Ukranians have only about 50-70 combat aircraft (wiki).... unless their air defense (seriously bolstered from the west over the past few months), has proved incredibly good.

The twitter news was full of 2 + 2 Il-72's being shot down, but there's been no vids of wreckage AFAIK. If they did shoot down 4 troop carriers, it begs the question wtf were the russians thinking flying heavily laden planes into area's with no air superiority.
