737-8 max plane goes down (2018) - new not Max crash Indonesia

Agreed. The FAA don't come out of this very well. I've no doubt that they were were being leaned on to a degree. The US Gov't eventually pulled the plug on the Max but they effectively had no choice.

I mainly deal with engineers, so I'm fairly well insulated from the suits, although occasionally I have to interact with sales reps. Totally different experience.
The machine goes on though. Boeing returned to profit last year despite record fines, criminality, compensation for airlines due to aircraft that can't fly and a total loss of confidence in the company.

The best example of how they do it and how government is complicit is the commission of the new Air Force One 747-8. This is a plane that commercially would cost $400m but as an air force defence project it will cost around $4billion, only 10x more and will the US pick a cheaper foreign aircraft for Air Force One, of course not.

Boeing recently announced that the aircraft will be delivered late and will cost another $500m, there's nothing like using public money to fill the coffers when you're down and failing... Quite famously Trump imposed tariffs because of the accusation that EU/European governments are plying Airbus with money... Oh the irony.

I do admire quite a few US companies in this arena though, SpaceX is one of them as they are a relentless machine that is completely orientated around an end goal above profit which sticks two fingers up to big corporates like Boeing. It'd be hard work but it must be really fulfilling to work there at the moment.

Could some one please remind me what these have been re branded as ?, we are flying Jet 2 to Palma in June on a 737 -800 , should I be worried ?

Boeings space programs are notorious cash sinks.

Jet 2 have no MAXs and have no intention of buying them.
Easy Jet have no MAXs they only fly airbus.
Ryanair are currently receiving the biggest single order in the world for MAXs.
They do not have MAX on the nose, Ryanair rebranded them 737-8200

After that documentary I'd be shitting it on any Boeing plane.

Breaking news so no idea if its a MAX or not?

No, not a MAX. A 737-89P which is a third generation 737 whereas the MAX is a 4th generation.

No doubt it will be "human error"
If the Chinese authorities conduct their investigation in the appropriate manner, there will be representatives from Boeing and engine manufacturer CFMI (GE/Safran) involved and there is no reason that true cause would be covered up whatever it is.

Lets just say Boeing will be very hopeful that no mechanical issues are found.
