Russian invasion of Ukraine

What is going on with the Russian troops, these aren’t hardened combatants, they can’t even move in formation.

Has Putin been playing the west and overplaying whilst underfunding his Army, these tactics are far are more Capt Manewaring than elite SF.
Russia’s military budget is similar to ours yet their armed forces are ten times bigger. The implication is that they can’t be anywhere near as well armed or well trained as many smaller militaries in the west. If you think about it it’s no real surprise they’re a shambles when up against well organised opposition.

The anxiety this **** Putin is causing in my house is ridiculous 2 children absolutely petrified and constantly need reassurance that they aren’t going to die. Feel helpless tbh.

Christ this thing moves fast, apparently the fighter jets EU promised for Ukraine are already there or on the way!

I'm no war expert or war tactician but I find it absolutely mental/amateur that the Russian's are choosing to invade via vehicle, with every vehicle bumper-to-bumper, surely that makes them easy pickings for drones and anti-tank weaponry?

Is it just me or are they really that dumb?

Are they worried about spacing out and being picked off one by one?
They thought that everyone would be out on the streets waving them in with russian flags, a serious lack of intelligence, on 2 different levels.

It’s about the 7th time I’ve posted this now, but it isn’t that simple.

No president of any country just “fires a nuke”. There’s no “red button”.

You need a room full of generals, a building full of military staffers and ultimately two guys at the end of that chain of command to actually go “yeah ok let’s do it”.

One madman can’t just decide to fire a nuke.

The same was true when Trump was president. He couldn’t have nuked anybody even if he ordered it.
I’m not convinced.

I accept robust protocols engaging multiple individuals will be in place in the States, the UK, China and France. I suspect Russia’s will more closely resemble North Korea’s. Dont expect Putin will have to jump through too many hoops. And the danger is that he’s completely deranged.

Hope you’re right and I'm wrong btw.

I’d describe myself as a centrist Labour voter, a *gasp* “Blairite”.

But fuck me I’m glad Corbyn isn’t PM, and I think Johnson is a complete insult to the history and respect that job commands.
Crickey.... you saying you support Johnson? Wonders will never.....

Only joshing as an ironic smile did chance to happen upon me when I read your post 80)

He should not of course, but common sense says they should not.

After the fall of the Berlin wall, there has been NATO mopping up of former Soviet states and Warsaw pact nations. These states are childlike, they want a big brother, so NATO the defensive alliance stepped in, It is the right thing to do to protect your brother, but and I say this from a Russian point of view " who protects me"

I am not a Putin apologist, that is Farage and the other western politicians bought by Russian money, like some in the Tory party.

I will reply further tomorrow pal ,I am off to bed
He ain’t heavy, he’s my brother … springs to mind.

The reality is that nobody needs protecting, unless they see a threat. Putin is the only threat, the people of Russia are innocent.

Rise of the Nazis series 2 is out on the BBC and goes into dictatorships, comparing Stalin and Hitler. The whole premise is they’re built on purely fear and that the dictator themselves will always become paranoid due to the dog eat environment of dictatorships.

There’s always someone who wants the top job and the adulation too. I’ve learned not to be optimistic but it’d be great if they oust the **** and someone swoops in to take it as a new western ally but that’s unlikely.
Hitler was well known to be paranoid as fuck. Wouldn't surprise me if he was the first to Argentina no matter what they tell us. Hitler escaping wouldn't look good in our history books.

No you’re right.

And that’s the US. I suspect protocols are certainly no more onerous in Russia.

it's the Soviet way. The Death of Stalin is a good, comedic take on it. Chernobyl less so.
