Russian invasion of Ukraine

Russia have started to blow up TV towers to prevent the Ukrainian President broadcasting and winning the propaganda war.

There will be one of these videos for Farage soon enough.

I despise these people.

Tucker Carlson is a ridiculous idiot but he's dangerous because there are people who hang off his every word. He riles people up with his stupid opinions.

I have, and they are nonsense.

It's academic however, because they aren't holding out for 10 days.
Depends what you mean by holding out. Russia can take the city quickly with overwhelming force, but the guerrilla war will go on for months stretching into years.

Numerous - perhaps the vast majority of - older Russians - long for the days when the Soviet Union was an influential global force. Nationalism is very strong among this population.

And this is, in part, why Putin dared to invade the Ukraine.

I think, however, that this invasion might well prove disastrous for Putin. Heavy casualties are likely and the unified Western sanctions will probably have a big impact on Russian citizens. What began as a popular nationalistic invasion might well turn into a hugely unpopular war as casualties mount and crippling sanctions unfold. WIth a bit of luck, this could lead to the end of Putin's reign.

Agree with all of that. We left it so late there is no off ramp for Putin to walk away, so he's at the stage where he doesn't care about kill ratios and such, only how much rubble he can leave in Ukraine.

He can't back down now because he's fucked either way.
He will carry this on to its conclusion. It's a question of credibility. He knows if he pulls this off, his word and threat will carry huge weight with his neighbours. It will focus his neighbours minds if they think of ignoring Russia's security and interests when they formulate their foreign policies.
Contrary to the lazy assumption on here and elsewhere, I don't think he's mad.

There's a group of semi-professional radio nerds on twitter who are saying that Russia are so badly prepared they are using analogue radio to communicate and they've picked up loads of messages back and forth, from organisational stuff, to orders and even soldiers crying on the radio for help. They even have photos of the frequencies the Russians are using for different operations and day/night.

That's seemingly backed up by the pictures of old school civilian radios taken off captured Russian soldiers that we've seen on twitter.

They're translating it and distributing the transcripts and audio to news agencies so I guess we might see that in the next 36 hours.

I watched it all night on cnn thanks , twitter can be edited every which way
Anything can but it's probably where you'll get the most upto date information. Sky and CNN can't be everywhere so we rely on local people to show us what's going on

In “reality” I don’t surround myself with people that speak from a position of ignorance so I rarely end up feeling quite so exasperated as I do on here.

That we are a week into the invasion and people are still posting Putin lies about this being anything to do with “preventing a NATO country from bordering Russia” is beyond a joke.

And yes, we all have opinions, I base mine solely on listening to the experts that have spent their careers studying Russia and Putin. I never stop trying to learn and I’m a voracious reader on this subject. Then we get some random fucker in here who watched a Facebook video from infowars and they come on here and blame nato and I’d personally never tire of slapping their idiot faces.
Can't argue with that.
