Video on that NEXTA new channel on Twitter. Shows a looter cling filmed to a lamp post, arse out and being whipped with a belt - for looting.

Not sure how I feel about that.

That’ll be playground stuff compared to what occupying Russian forces can expect if captured by civilians, and is unfortunately a necessary part of demoralising the occupation force.

Ukraine claims it has foiled an assassination attempt against the Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Officials said a unit of Chechen special forces - known as Kadyrovites - were involved in the scheme and had been "eliminated".

Ukrainian security chief Oleksiy Danilo said: "We are well aware of the special operation that was to take place directly by the Kadyrovites to eliminate our president."

Mr Danilo said Ukraine had been tipped off about the plot by members of Russia's Federal Security Service

Russia will use more force. Bigger bombs, stronger weapons and the west will act shocked but do nothing.

Right, but Putin isn’t going to be able to just put in a Moscow puppet, he’s going to have to keep it occupied with an insurgent army getting a steady supply of weapons from over the border.

It’s going to tie him and his forces up, all the while the money is dwindling and he has to keep up the pretence at home whilst living standards continue to fall.

The way out of this was never fighting, at least not by anyone but Ukraine. It’s through sanctions and diplomacy. The latter is the only real hope of getting anything meaningful in the short term (and is as much about diplomacy with China and to a lesser extent India as it is with Russia).

There used to be a Ukrainian Club on Plymouth Grove,Longsight.
When my dad went on a Sunday i had to go and while he had a few beers,i went to Ukainian school upstairs with the other kids.
One day i answered a teacher back.
I had to stand facing a corner with my arms stretched out with my palms face up......he put a big fuckoff glass ashtray on each hand......if lowered my arms,i was belted with a cane.
Was awful.....never answered him back again though.

Polliticians don't really want to upset their oligarch mates they just want to get rid of Putin. Sanctions etc are against Putin not the Russian people. That encompasses oligarchs that are mates with Boris etc too I think.

I've read opinions that it's simply vanity at stake. Putin's desire for Russia to be relevant again, to be feared and admired. Seems pathetic but from what I read he took the breaking up of the USSR quite badly. Probably wants that legacy of being the guy who attempted to restore it

Putin can NOT be seen to lose this war now. He will destroy Ukraine to a smouldering rubble, despite the sanctions, if he has to as long as he can claim victory. Sadly this will mean thousands and thousands of deaths.
As far as I can see, the only way it can be stopped is by the Russian armed forces and the Russian people revolting against him.
It’s absolutely heartbreaking having to sit back and watch on as people are slayed indiscriminately. Fuck you Putin.

You have to admit, out of pure morbid curiosity if nothing else, if this was a game and you could pause/reload/save game etc, I’d be interested to see how it played out. I do love a good end of word novel.

A small aside to this is you can see why government's used the covid pandemic to try and eliminate the use of cash. Aside from knowing every transaction you make they can effectively stop you existing. All your cards frozen and you're fucked you can't even buy a pint of milk.
