Russian invasion of Ukraine

I'd feel sorry for you if the solution to your problem was beyond reach.

But it isn't.

Why don’t you try and answer a point rather than ad hominem attacks?

Can you explain why you expect Democratic European nations being invaded and the potential for nuclear war to be as newsworthy in Europe as ongoing conflicts in other continents, that have been going on for years?

It’s staggering how many people seem to be oblivious or advocating risking that if we go NATO v Russia then we more than likely end up going nuclear and it’s game over for most of us, including the Ukrainians.

It’s shit for Ukraine, but in my opinion risking wiping out the human race and most animals that rely on vegetation isn’t a price worth risking to attempt to put it right. People are advocating risking the lives of ~8 Billion people to save Ukraine. Ukraine will fight and make life / occupation hell for Russia, and they will inevitably withdraw. We can support Ukraine in this effort.

Right. I’m going to carry on watching ‘the day after’. The start of that (radio/tv commentary on the Russia / NATO escalations) are worryingly similar.
Your comment, it's shit for Ukraine but better than a nuclear war is fine except, you do not offer an alternative other than giving him what he wants. Today he wants Ukraine, what if tomorrow its another country, Poland even. When would you decide enough is enough ?

The alternatives are not known yet....but we can't commit suicide over it.

You're talking newsworthy, as in the latest thing, on our doorstep etc, etc, in a conversation with yourself or a bit of whataboutery,

What was originally being talked about was the nature of the coverage.

I don't want a nuclear war but I don't think Putin is going to stop any time soon. He already has his puppets in Belarus and elsewhere ready to go.
If he attacks Poland or Moldova the shit will really hit the fan and we will be at war , nuclear or not.

Sky & BBC reporting now how Non Ukrainians are being treated at the Border. Romanian Spokesman defending it against Sarah Jayne on Sky. United Nations now condemned the treatment

"There has been a different treatment (...). There should be absolutely no discrimination between Ukrainians and non-Ukrainians, Europeans and non-Europeans. Everyone is fleeing from the same risks.”

Whilst the West's response is impressive, we should now focus on letting the Russian people know our fight is with their knobhead president, not them, and that as quickly as sanctions have been imposed, they can be removed if they remove him.
Who will they believe? Putin will just tell them evil western fake news spreaders have infiltrated Russian internet.

There's a bit of whataboutery in that question. It's pure speculation that he might ever want to go for e.g. Poland. And to anyone chiming in about his alleged "vision" for a rekindled grand USSR, assuming that is even true, then that may be an aspiration but it does not mean he is hell bent on it, nor that his views and actions might not be moderated by events.

Hard to imagine that the Ukraine situation is going remotely as he planned. And if taking Ukraine is met with this level of resistance and the enormous international reaction, the impact upon his economy, then you can times that by 10x if he went for Poland. He'd be mad to try this again.

If the hugely admirable resistance put up by the Ukrainians, and the significant arms we have provided, and the vast range of sanctions, are to have had any benefit, then IMO it is not that we will have prevented his successful taking of Ukraine. It is that he will think "Fuck, I am not doing THAT again".
