Russian invasion of Ukraine

I know it was mentioned earlier but only just seen the confirmation.

They've got their own Russian separatist problem, so not surprised to see them make this move as they would be the next target you would assume.

EU doesn't provide any security in the way joining nato would does it?

The shelved joke has been done already.

All joking aside, the missus tells me IKEA have donated €40m towards relief for Ukraine.

These companies taking their own stand has to be welcomed.
Putin should invite IKEA to the peace talks especially as they can take their own stand, a table and 4 chairs.

It's Ok folks, nuclear war will be averted. Putin will see sense as his people, his hangers on will revolt soon once they all hear about the latest sanction on them......

An international cat federation has said it's banning all Russian cats from entering its competitions.
In a statement on its website the Fédération Internationale Féline said it was "horrified" by Russia's invasion of Ukraine and had subsequently decided to disallow Russian cats from competing in its competitions, which take place around the world.
As well as this, it said that no cats bred in Russia would be allowed to be registered with its organisation outside of Russia.
The rules will be in place until the end of May, when they will be reviewed.
It added that it would dedicate a part of its budget to support cat breeders in Ukraine who are suffering because of the current situation.
It’s time for Pussy Riot!

The EU is putting our government to shame.
On a personal note, me and Mrs Prague recently rented out our house near Prague and the people wanted us to empty the house so they could use all their own stuff, so all our stuff went to storage. Some Ukrainian refugees have been given accomodation in the town so we have donated all our stuff to them - furniture, TV, pots and pans, bedding etc.
We thought it was the right thing to do as we wouldn't be using it for some time.

Just watching the news, it was showing Ukraine families arriving in Germany and being met by Germans offering accommodation, genuinely I shed a tear, heartbreaking and heartwarming, well done to the Germans.

Saw it too - really is heartwarming - contrasts well with the knobheads in Whitehall still hiding behind red tape and security concerns.

You only have your shelf to blame.
Sorry guys I didnt check, but I have left my post up ...........and have since put brackets on.

Just to emphasize how absolutely ridiculous and utterly atrocious this situation is, can you imagine one day Nicola Sturgeon says enough is enough, "I am declaring independence, we are not longer part of the UK, we are sick of having to obey rules we didn't vote for, 300 miles away, so we're off". And then, lefty that she is, she threatens to join the Warsaw Pact.

We are so concerned about this, we decide to sent troops into Scotland, and having not got very far, decide to bomb the fuck out of the place, killing Scots and English in their hundreds, possibly thousands. And totally flattening the place.

This whole scenario is absolutely completely unthinkable, isn't it. Longshanks and WIlliam Wallace died hundreds of years ago and there's no way on planet earth, civilized countries get up to that sort of shit any more.

What the fuck in his tiny little head is Putin thinking??? I am starting to err with @gordondaviesmoustache that he is actually off his trolley.

He completely misjudged the situation and thought it would be relatively painless for him. Unfortunately Narcissistic leaders don't possess the mental ability to accept this kind of failure.

He would rather let thousands die than look like a defeated fool.

This is an insane decision. Trading short term (ie 3 weeks) of pretending things are OK for permanent exclusion from the international aviation business.

NATO is obviously better as that is essentially a pact, you attack you us and we all get involved.

I don't think Moldova could join NATO as part of their territory is disputed (Russian's again have already taken part of their territory).

I think joining the EU does bring more security though, EU much more likely to rally around, provide info etc... for one of their own.
