Not sure they got any governmental assistance though.Redundancy is only applicable when the role cease to exist or there is significant enough change for it to be considered a new role.
I would have thought as the job is now outsourced to a 3rd party that TUPE (Transfer of Undertakings (Protection of Employment)) would apply and their contracts protected. I'd consider what they have done illegal in that case.
What's equally upsetting is that apparently they applied for a government grant during lockdown. If I were the government then I'd be making them pay it back.
