It's hard to remember just how bad we were.
If City now put out their weakest 11 senior players and had a bad day at the office it would still be 1970 Brazil compared to what we used to endure. I must admit, I sometimes lose that sense of perspective. You do become accustomed to quality and it's easy to end up as entitled as a Red Scouser or a Rag.

I agree. You just needed the right mentality. You could have a great laugh. The glory-hunting brigade could not have hacked it though. I often wonder what the Red Scouse fans would be like if they were in the second tier for several years and were getting stuffed by Stoke, Rotherham and Barnsley on a regular basis. I have this odd feeling there would be an endless whine from Murkeyside so loud it could be heard inside a chip shop in Cleethorpes. So many fans follow a team to bathe in the reflected glory, but following a shit team is another level again.

If we are going for a top trumps approach then I give you Lee Bradbury at £3M, a then record signing I think.

For whatever reason there is something about an inept or out of luck striker that makes me despair more any other position. Whereas a player like the Mangler would just induce dread and/or make me chuckle, it was the likes of Bradbury, Conlon, Corradi, Bony, [insert personal favourite here] that would leave me with my head in my hands thinking why do I bother. Even some of the better ones would do my head in: nearly 20 years later I still have residual rage about Anelka's utter inability to convert one on ones with the keeper.

My own personal low lights were sitting in the old North stand watching us lose at home to Bury,.. 0-1 if memory serves , and also, again in the bloody North stand, watching Jamie Pollock score the most horrendous own goal,… I think agains QPR.. Abject misery on a weekly basis it was in those days supporting City,… and then going into work to be mocked and abused by rags that didn’t even go to old toilet..Terrible times indeed..

Don’t know how true but there was a story doing the rounds that he refused to attend the English lessons the club arranged for him because on arrival, he considered the language and people to be ‘vulgar’
His agent was the ex liverpool/boro striker David Hodgson. Keegan never did business with him ever again by all accounts
