I remember when we were that abysmal..

We were never "shit". We were frequently not very good, mind! Gay Meadow and the Shay in consecutive seasons spring to mind straight away!
We were never shit is quite a big shout :). I can think of a few occasions and possibly entire seasons where if we weren’t shit, we were pretty close. Watching us getting beat by Bury, Stockport and Crewe springs to mind. But as the saying goes, the darkest part of the night is just before the dawn, and look at Bury, Stockport, Crewe and CITY now.

My lowest was Lincoln City. We scored early away and I said to my mate "a good win here and I don't have to go to the home leg as I have something on that I will struggle to get out of". Of course, we went on to lose away 4-1 so I had to go to the home leg
Lincoln than beat us again 1-0 at home to win 5-1 on aggregate

For whatever reason, a game in 98 sticks in my mind as probsbly the worst game of football I’ve ever been at.

City 0-0 Sheffield United.

Utterly shite from both teams. I think the highlight was Jamie Pollock punching one of their players with an uppercut and getting a yellow card for it after about 10 mins of his debut.

They had a 45 year old Ian Rush up front on his own.

We weren’t very good that day. We were utter shite, as were they.

It's all about the phraseology. I'm reluctant to ever call anything about City "shit, though a ginger ex manager would sorely tempt me. I am, however, prepared to acknowledge that there have been times (an awful lot of them!) when we were somewhat less than brilliant!

IIRC, didn't Wimbledon (whatever guise they were operating under) tonk us 4-0 at Maine Road in that era?

I remember being that abysmal that even my mum who has very little interest in football used to want city to win and would cheer us on if we were on the tv. She doesn’t anymore though ha ha.

Jeez, did that really happen ? I always thought that was a dream.
