You've probably seen the same defendants a few times i bet. People that keep making the same mistakes usually have a problem accepting responsibility, I'm not sure it is anything to with political correctness or woke society.

The problem is that the Oscars doesn't know what it wants to be. It sees the sort of attention that something like the Golden Globes gets by being controversial and wants a bit of that, but at the same time, it's supposed to be the very serious, po-faced one. It typically relies on boring, kiss-arse humour (Where will Meryl Streep find the space for yet another award?). Hell, assuming that Chris Rock didn't know about the alopecia thing, even this joke was a pretty tame joke about a haircut.

They seem to have forgotten why it exists in the first place. It's there to promote the Hollywood film industry, not to actually get ratings itself. It's seen as the serious one and that's why people look at which films have won the Oscar when deciding what to watch, not the Golden Globes. It's fallen foul of chasing the social media attention, and ironically got more than it ever bargained for.

An English Dictionary would tell you cuckold is a man bringing up another mans child or a man unaware of his wifes affairs, as in being cuckholded, a man fully aware of his wifes infedelity and turns a blind eye to it is a wittol.

I shall keep to the merry old english terms and you can keep to the american reworking of our language.

Makes no difference to me, tbh if anyone is even still talking about this incident 24hr after it happened it would be quite sad, it's pretty irrelevent, lots more interesting stuff happeneing than one daft twat slapping another on telly.

That’s the beauty of language. I’m in the US so a lot of what I write is American English. I also say certain things with an English slant being a Manc so I get stuck not belonging here or there
