Will Smith slaps Chris Rock at the Oscars

On the road for 14 hrs today, so had a moment or two to discuss the whole pulava…

I’d love to know what Jada said to Will between him laughing it off and getting up to slap him.

Methinks Will is a smidge of an underling in that relationship, and Jada knows it.

Disclaimer: I’m not a fan of Jada, because I think she is a pseudo-psychiatrist who thinks her shit don’t smell! I’ve seen her “Red Table” show and she is cringeworthy, in a Dr Phil kinda way.

I think he is beholden to her, and she knows it, and if we all saw and heard what transpired in those few seconds, I think it would be illuminating.

Before @kaz7 accuses me of victim shaming, I’m doing no such thing. Rock made a joke about a very sensitive personal issue and her husband reacted…I believe, on her insistence.

They’re both lucky Rock is taking the “discretion is the better part of lawsuit & police report” approach, because satire is protected First Amendment speech in the U.S. and it was clearly meant to be humorous, as clearly proven by Smith’s initial reaction.

Much as I’m not a fan of Hollywood gossip, it’d be nice to see & hear that short gap between word and deed!

I'm actually quite disappointed by smiths apology. Surely he must have enough money and success to tell the faux outraged of Hollywood and the press to go fuck themselves? If he wants to apologise to Rock in private that's their own business. As for the argument about the influence accepting on screen violence would have on kids that can fuck off too - they should've been in bed when the Oscars were on TV, and if Hollywood/media want to worry about screen violence/kids then they have bigger fish of their own to fry.

In a country where people get offended as quickly and as often as Liverpudlians, shouldn't the host be expected to apologise for his part?
Publicly mocking a woman who has lost her hair through a medical condition is pretty scummy.

Possibly. Does anyone actually really or genuinely care about either the joke or the slap, or are people just trying to create a virtue from their own fake outrage?

Just seen Alan “get back to your country” Davies standing up for Chris Rock on breakfast TV. He called it a mild joke, that guy needs to take a look at himself. Violence is always wrong when dealing with jokes but jokes can be wrong too, can’t they Alan??

Well they've just had about 10 minutes about it all on BBC which although l was not really concentrating on it, it did seem to have a lot a virtue signalling. A woman losing her hair must be a big deal to her and really shouldn't be joked about at an event where everyone is backslapping everyone else.
Even Smith seems to be grabbing a bit of virtue for his apology with his actor's tears.
FFS it's on BBC again.

Did he do it on purpose or just forget, though? We’ve all made jokes then realised someone in earshot might be offended. And I’m assuming he knew about her condition in the first place.

That said, surely a bloke knows not to take the piss out of a woman’s hairstyle in the first place.

Have you actually heard the joke first hand or just read about "nasty comedian Chris Rock pointing and laughing at someone for having a disease"?

It's tame as fuck.

We are led by the nose by the media in a procession of things we should apparently be outraged/offended about. Since Xmas we've had Boris's parties, Joe Rogan, Jimmy Carr, will Smith, and probably others that I've forgotten. Wtf is happening to society? It might be that we are becoming loads more empathic and caring, but I suspect it's something else.

I saw that. I thought it was an interesting take on it, albeit only from the viewpoint of the comedian rather than the butt of the joke.

And then Silly Sally started rambling about why no-one stopped Smith, even going as far as "because he's Will Smith." No, Silly, more that there was nothing a security person in row 2 could do when Smith was 10 yards away from Rock to start with and with a ramp to the stage directly in front. I'd have thought that a responsible journo would have watched and noted before introducing a redundant opinion.

I think I just have should have phrased my post better. I wasn’t attempting to gauge Rock’s joke, I was trying to point out the hypocrisy of Davies, who by virtue of the fact he withdrew his tweet, knows full well there is a line to be crossed. Personally I thought the joke was rubbish and Chris Rock is way overrated, give me Ricky Gervais at an awards ceremony any day.

Boris is the only one l knew about. I see that after all the media time already spent the fixed penalty notices will be issued today and there will be even more fuss and bother.
And again the Oscars thing is on again.

Don't get me wrong, all these things are worthy of reporting (perhaps park the Boris one as that should be pursued for constitutional reasons), but it's the way they consume the media for ever or at least until the next 'outrage' comes along that is sinister. They'd have you believe it's all about truth and justice, but it is a lot more to do with throwing people to the lions, public hangings/flogging.

I turned on QI the other week & im not sure if it’s me but Alan Davies seems to be in the midst of a slow breakdown.

I could only watch for a few minutes…
