I’m sorry mate. I wasn’t careful enough reading this yesterday. You may have a point that that bear pit encourages bad behaviour. I genuinely haven’t seen as bad from them though. I actually think they have been pretty effective (as far as they can be) at holding the **** to account.

anyway apologies again.

No problem at all mate. It’s one of them where you read your own post several times to make sure it’s not you responsible for the cross lines lol.

Holyrood is far more mature in its business though I will grant you that, if not a touch too dour at times and the rough and tumble of Westminster, abuse aside can be entertaining.

Came across this discussion between Andrew Neil and the former SNP finance spokesperson and chair of the Scottish Growth Commission Andrew Wilson about the party's independence claims. It is a couple of years old but the facts discussed are probably still valid.

Thought it was helpful to hear some calm discussion of key practical points - but maybe too long for most to bother with.

I listened to it all. Very interesting.
Neil asks the difficult questions.
He makes the point of a frictionless border between an Independent Scotland and the rest of the UK being impossible and initially, financially very difficult.

I wish he’d got his teeth into Boris before the NIP.

Yep - that will be why the coward avoided him

Excellent discussion which I thought both players came out of with credit. Good points made on both sides. Neil‘s last point was particularly important that there are a number of real loons in the SNP to counter the sensible members like Andrew Wilson. I honestly believe that the greatest risk to independence is the SNP itself and the transition plan. It needs clear communication and absolute honesty and a comparison with the status quo. We need to get on with it and start to build the plan and communicate, communicate, communicate. The more sensible and experienced People involved in its formulation the better.

Yes but didn’t Wilson respond there would be no change on day 1 or any other day until we rejoin the EU?
it was a good discussion and Neil correctly focused on the why nots. I thought Wilson was honest and realistic at addressing the challenges we would face, particularly with a transition period. What a bloody contrast to Brexit. ‘Lower costs’ ‘ lower energy bills’ ‘ more trading growth’ ‘more money for the NHS’
What did you think having listened to the interview?

Precisely!
However that’s the exact point that should have been put to Boris. That he was talking through his hole.
And what is happening up North now is precisely what was predictable as soon as third country rules were implemented.
Something they and the DUP chose to go for.

I’ll watch this space in Scotland with great interest.

wonder how many tory millionaires (and donors) have a vested interest in keeping Scotland under the thumb of Westminster. Grouse moors, estates, salmon fishing, landlords etc. Time for a purge, repatriate and compensate the piracy of the " clearances". One thing for sure, the Scottish people's welfare is even further off the menu than the english people's welfare obviously.

interesting article;

Haha.

I heard her comment on the invasion yesterday and like everyone else she rightly condemned it and less than 24 hours later she is leading the most anti Putin party there is?

Got to hand it to her, she knows how to piggy back something and use the media ;-)

The article covered a little more than that. They should be practicing being a grown up government after all. ;-)

Interesting article

Sad that it still exists but its a pretty small sample. Interesting what is said about school projects, one of my grandaughters has been doing one just recently so maybe its a curriculum item. Hope so.

On the rise again sadly, shouldn’t exist at all as you say but we know it does in some sections of “society”. Of course education is the best place to start and there is only so much a government can legislate against.

What mostly triggered my interest though was its possible connections with Scottish independence - if this was the UK it would read “Brexit” - the common thread here being varying degrees of nationalism within individuals. So I then found myself thinking how maybe the backdrop of nationalism allows more bigoted behaviours to come from the shadows from these individuals. We saw increases after Brexit, these were vocally blamed on Johnson but while no one would paint Sturgeon with the same brush the parallels are there.

Of course that’s absolutely not to imply or say anyone who supports Scottish independence is inherently racist - that would be as factually incorrect and as lazy as saying anyone who voted Brexit was racist. But I am fascinated by the synergies of the escalation of racism from two nations who voted for other sides of the political divide.

I am deeply cynical about the way most things are presented by the press these days. Scottish Independence is subject to a pretty biased media up here. This article in the Scotsman is a little more comprehensive and its is clear from that there is still much to be done.
