Real Madrid (H) | Post Match Thread

Haaland is on that pitch, it's 3-0, maybe even 4 before Benzema gets his first.
A few regrets, but I'll take that. We'll do them in Madrid. Cancelo, possibly even Walker back. That said, I thought Zin was excellent over on the left this evening. I don't blame him for the goal. Moment of excellence from Benzema – he's been doing that a lot, to everyone. Otherwise didn't put a foot wrong, and quite a lot of creativity between him and his big brother.

Grealish at 100m cannot be brought onto game like this importance or Atletico games etc. why we didnt sign a striker in the summer instead of him.

Benzema punishing teams regularly with top class finishing and by being clinical. before that they had CR scoring 50-60-70 goals per season. while we try to get goals from guys who once again showed are very far from clinical.

had we scored what we needed today its 7-3 and they would have faced an incredible task next week. now a lucky 3-1 win will do it for them. if we are super clinical then its 9-3.

I want Txiki to answer for it if we miss out on CL final due to our finishing. he sanctioned getting Grealish who aint helping us on these big games, no way he start in second leg either. did we need him badly? fuck we did...

80% chance of reaching final but it will still feel like 50%

We are the better team pray luck plays no part

I don’t know how people are able to judge the result based on what you’d have taken pre-match. I can only judge it based on what actually happened in the game and when you do that it’s nothing but frustration and missed opportunity. Yes, pre-match I’d have taken a 1-goal victory and not seen it as a bad result, but pre-match we didn’t know that the fair scoreline would have been about 7-1. If you know that, you don’t deem that 1-goal win as being all that good. It feels like another Spurs/Monaco right now. Thank god away goals don’t mean anything any more I suppose.

Look we could have been 3 ahead going into the next leg but we have seen Madrid find a way to score. I am more confident we will go through now than before the match.

We're in the long grass now I feel. Too wasteful, and have made it very difficult for ourselves now I fear.
I dont think so.

We gifted them 2 goals, but could have scored 6.

Game in Madrid we will be well up for it with Cancelo and Walker back hopefully.

We can not have Fernandinho play,he will get rinsed he is 36 and looks it.

We are the better team by a mile.

We had a make shift back four without our two first choice full backs, for most of the game we had a 37 year old midfielder at right back.

Even if Mahrez makes it 3-0, Madrid would come back into it, it’s what they do.

It was a great game and glad we get to see it.
I personally thought offensively, Madrid were excellent. Worst than us at the back though. Benzema is a quality player. Top notch finish that.

My take: a vastly entertaining game that went back and forth. My heart almost couldn't take it and I almost went outside to just calm myself down but I didn't want to miss anything. If anything we showed that we can score on this team - very nearly at will. However, the blown chances - perhaps 2-3 goals - is troubling.

What gives me hope is that we will get Cancelo and Walker back. I think Zinchenko had a good game. I love his moves up the pitch and the overlapping. But he needs to get back better. Overall, if we keep scoring, we win and go through.
Zinchenko was awesome. What a performance what a man even though I am Russian.

funny how 10 years in football changes

we would be watching united in semi-finals of Champions League and dreaming one day i would love it if city could be playing in the Champions League semi final ?? Then your mum or dad smacks you around the head and says turn it in your daft ****, i am trying to watch EastEnders

anybody feeling down, need to rewind to when manchester city season ended in early September

this was like Man City in UCL in Guardiola first years...i thought Guardiola learned the lession, like last year, doing a better game management, with clinical subs, strenghtening the midfield...refreshing the players..and of course didnt help Laporte messing up again in this games..hope Stones return: Dias and Stones are more secure, composed and complete . Like we saw last year.
For me it seems he can't win. If it's not like this he's blamed for being too cautious.

Now united’s season starts and ends in August ;)

The second leg will determine whether that was one of the greatest games the Etihad has ever played host to or one of the most needlessly chaotic. Hope Walker and Ake are in the back four next week.

Just avoid defeat and we'll be fine.
Shades of Monaco, Lyon Spuds & scousers CL games tonight in terms of chaos, we don’t normally fare too well when it’s like that but after seeing our boys against Athletico the other week & the fact we actually won the game fills me with confidence
