Kalvin Phillips | Joins City on a 6-year deal

We are lucky to be in the position we are, with so many world-class players. Any team like that also needs players as backup, who might be happy to play second fiddle, but they can be absolutely invaluable to squad harmony and can often prove to be outstanding players too, especially given the company of such talented teammates and coaching. We don't need to be biting each other's heads off because we disagree on what's needed - we support our club and support any player who arrives to help us achieve our goals. Who knows if it will be Phillips, or not, but we rarely get it wrong these days.

The size of the respective transfer fees might have something to do with it .

Depends how you look at it. Losing a club legend like Fern is a blow, definitely a challenge, but can also be seen as an opportunity. There's a slot freed up in the squad and on the wage bill and the club has had 12 months to line up a replacement. We can add an ok player to fill this gap in the squad or we can look to add a top quality 6/8 to significantly strengthen the squad and potentially the starting line up. I'd favour the latter option, but we're being run by professionals who know what they're doing so I'm pretty chilled either way.
 
Serious question for ' Brazillian Blue( Gus ) and not trying to be a smartarse, do you know how many dedicated scouts City have in South America ? We obviously have links in there because of the deals we do/have done.

I have a problem in that I don't know much about players beyond City and European teams, whereas you often refer to players who you consider to better, cheaper, more suitable etc than players we are linked with. Accepting that there is so much bullshit with the internet itk claims.

I find it difficult therefore to appreciate the validity of your claims such as " more suitable " , cheaper or better options etc when City should be aware of them surely ?

PS I also appreciate that they are your opinions btw

He's older than Rodri and I think there are better players in Europe at a younger age that could challenge Rodri in a couple of years. But the price is good and the club are rumoured to want Bellingham next summer who will no doubt cost a pretty penny so we might be looking at some lower cost options to increase numbers in the squad. And that's a good thing. If we sign Phillips I'll give him my full support and hope he proves me wrong.

Fairy nuff

I think with 5 subs next year we need a slightly bigger pool of players, not daft numbers but 21 rather than 17 for example

If we can get a couple of cheaper quality squad players that can take the load of KDB, Bernard & Rodri then it has to help, it has looked a bit like we were running on fumes in the later stages of some recent games
