Moving from a summer game was, in my opinion, bloody stupid.

I went to lots of the matches before it was switched, only a handful since.
I agree.

I thought it was put there so it could grow without being overshadowed by the men's game. It feels like the FA have said it's established now so this'll do.

All the best home based players are moving to European clubs because of their lip service to the sport.

Gutted Weir is going - very big boots to fill and the other empty pair vacated by Georgia next to her as well.
I hope the club have planned accordingly as its obvious they have known about this for some time.

If there's insufficient talent in the girls academy (as a bottom of the League status would suggest) or home grown then we have to try and get established quality players from the continent and we cannot compete on terms with a wage cap in place.

You CANNOT make a bad start in a 12 team League like the WSL - lose 2 games and any chance of winning the League is gone its that competitive at the top.

We need to have sorted out our recruitment and be ready to go from the 1st whistle this season. ANything less and thats a complete failure on the clubs part.

That fucking salary cap is hampering the development of the womens game. No doubt it was put in place to stop us , but it’s going to affect everyone.. sooner or later.

What happens when you have a wage cap you can’t blame any player wanting to leave for more money! We be lucky to finish top 3 next season the teams been decimated and it will carry on with a wage cap.

Average salary here is £30000, Barcelona its £100000+. I know there are a few here getting more, but not many. If they are looking for enough cash to support them after a 10 year career i can see why they are leaving, Taylor or no Taylor....

As an aside, I do remember reading an article before last seasons CL final between Chelsea and Barcelona which explained how those 2 teams had broken transfer records and were paying huge wages to some players (Kerr is on about £350K I think). It then went on to say that the success wasn't anything to do with that though, it was all down to stellar mamangement by Hayes and her Barca counterpart, oblivious to the obvious double standards in reporting, which did make me smile..........

Weir leaving will be a big loss. Feels like there’s an exodus when it seems City have put a good team together. Shame really as there are some really good players leaving for newer pastures.

They won't be able to field 11 players at this rate. If they want the WSL to be the Premier league equivalent they need to drop the salary cap otherwise it simply becomes a feeder league for Europe. Play for one of the bigger wsl teams for a season or two catch the eyes of the big European teams then get the move.

Can't blame any of them for leaving, they're in "regular" jobs, if they're offered better pay elsewhere they have to take it. their career is short, they won't be able to live for the rest of their lives off of what they earn from football so they go where the most money is.

We're the only ones who are seeing this happen consistently though. Far as I can tell we've lost more home-grown/English players to top European teams in the last few years (Bronze, Parris, Christiansen, Duggan) than Arsenal and Chelsea combined. Either we just have way better players who are more in demand, which I'd like to believe but isn't backed up by results, or there's issues closer to home.

They need to update it for sure, but we're fairly comfortably behind Arsenal and Chelsea and we're somehow the only ones affected by it? The salary cap might be a problem but it's not the main issue for City or for the development of the game. Mad to think it's in place to stop us.

Where do they draw the line though? The gap between the top 3 and everyone is already massive, that'd just make the divide permanent, not to mention there's no guarantee it addresses the minimum wage problem with people getting paid less than £25k a year as professionals.

It's worth saying for all the talk on here of the salary cap, it's not a hard fixed cap. It's a percentage cap (40% of turnover, I think) you can increase that and have more money to work with if you take the women's game seriously and get sponsorships etc.

These 2 aren't going to be the last going. There's so many heading out the door that I'm amazed the club aren't planning other changes behind the scenes.

City are just part of the food chain. We plunder the lesser clubs for their best players after all, but with the salary cap, City are plundered by bigger fish from throughout Europe. The FA must realise that their policy on wages makes it very difficult for English clubs to be competitive in the Champion's League, and thus hampers the game in this country.
Surely it's only a matter of time before the salary cap is legally challenged for being sexist & a restraint of trade.

Will really miss watching Weir play. What a left foot she has. Will admit to the fact that my judgment is slightly clouded by the fact that she always seems to score a world class goal against the swampettes.

I get the issues with the salary cap…. And Lyon et al have picked through our squad at will - and no one can blame a player leaving for triple the money etc…. But Chelsea and Arsenal don’t on the surface seem to have had the same problem. Got to be more than the wage cap in play at City.

Winning stuff helps, but it seems that we have a Taylor made problem.
