Kalvin Phillips | Joins City on a 6-year deal

If Phillips is worth £35mil then about £10mil ;-)

We'd have stayed up without Harrison's goal incidentally.

So not only do you guys think a mystery release clause exists for a very low fee which nobody has activated in the 3 years since the contract was signed (something not mentioned by any of the many many journalists ours or yours) or any of our various fan itks (we have those also).

A clause Kalvin insisted on as a Championship player despite us already showing we would sell him for a fee of the same amount of this clause to Villa never mind a Champions League club.

But also Manchester City decided to give us a £7mil reduction on the understanding we would help them out if they decided to buy KP in the future.

Even though any Champions League team could seemingly activate this clause at any time and make the reduction pointless or we could have sold KP to West Ham for £55mil a few months back and that reduction would still have got you no benefit?

Dont mean to be rude but these stories and whatnot just comes across as drunk blokes in a pub telling each other tales.
I have no idea if there is a release clause in his contract or not but I do know that most of them have an activation date it could kick in this summer for champs league clubs hence the reason west ham wanted it done earlier. I also know that Leeds and man city have a great working relationship which personally I believe will make talks run smoother and make Leeds more likely to business with us.

Grealish was arrogant lol.

Even Villa fans said as much.

An arrogant party boy who was often on the back pages for the wrong reasons.

Selfishly doing things that were embarrassing for his boyhood club for years.

That is what I meant.

Phillips isn't like that, never had any headlines like that.

That is what I meant by different characters.

Doesn't make Jack a bad person just means that maybe he makes decisions a little differently.

Gareth Barry, Fabian Delph, David Silva, Kevin De Bruyne, Fernandinho, Bernardo Silva, Ruben Dias, Sergio Aguero, Pablo Zabaleta, Oleks Zinchenko like this post.

(To be clear, that's sarcasm)

Same story, different year. The only one that never moved was Kane and even then it was very clear he was desperate for the move.

To be honest, and obviously I could be very wrong, but this strikes me very similar to the likes of the Ings rumours were fuck all was in it and folk just don't want to be left behind if it did turn out to be true or just happen to...happen!

As someone who doesn't know much about his game outside the Euros and a few Leeds matches, I appreciated this.

He's got a wider range of passing than I realized and the pressing ability will obviously appeal to Pep.

IIRC we averaged 4.8 subs per game during project restart when 5 subs were available.
Pep will make subs if the game is safe but usually doesn't make them if its tight & probably expects the players hes picked to turn the game around. Sunday wasn't usual with Zinc coming on at half time & then Raz & Gundy coming on before the 70th minute

So........can he replace Fernandihno? Or is he just going to be a squad member
I'm probably the last person that you'd want to ask that question to, but it seems like he'd be a useful squad player that would be an upgrade on the 37 year old version Fernandinho, yes. Gives us something we don't have. An upgrade on prime Fernandinho, definitely not, but who would be?

We don't need squad fillers, squad filling should be the remit for our talented youth coming through, Lavia for example at DM, he isn't going to replace Rodri but will be good enough against a lot of prem teams imo.

Buying Kalvin Phillips just blocks our own talent from progressing and is hardly improving the squad tbh being an upgrade on a 37yo is hardly a ringing endorsement at the end of the day.

He is a very good player who found a niche for himself in Bielsa's very regimented system.

It suited his passing range, reading of the game and ability to break up play.

I think given the influence and similarities between Guardiola and Bielsa KP would find adaption quite easy and I did say on our forum once I heard Fernandinho was leaving that I fully expected you to go for KP because of the Bielsa schooling.

The only downside or worry for you is first he has looked less than comfortable since Bielsa left in Marsch's system .

It is possible that outside of the exact role Bielsa had him in he may not thrive in the same way . And whilst Pep uses a similar system to Bielsa it isnt totally identical.

He also does have quite a bad injury reputation over the last few years.

As I say I don't begrudge him leaving but I Don't believe the clause stuff or that you will get him for anything like the fee you think.

If he is able to adapt to a slightly different (but similar role) for you should he sign then he would do well.

But its not certain.
Thanks

Ha yeah, to be clear I'm not exactly advocating we knock down the door to sign Phillips, just saying I appreciated SterlingSilva's post which explained a bit more of his game because I've only seen him at the Euros and a handful of Leeds games. This seems likely to happen, so just trying to educate myself a bit.

But either way I'm a homer and will talk myself into whoever City sign.

I do agree on your point about youth, and wish we'd give the young players a chance more often, but interested to hear what makes you think Lavia is ready for that? I know Lavia is highly rated but considering the importance of the #6 in how we set up I'd be absolutely terrified trying an 18 year old out there in the prem.

small suggestion -

if you don't mean to be rude, don't go into other clubs forums and be rude.
or just dont go on other clubs forums fullstop, fucked this cock off onto ignore 2 posts in, fuck all interest in a knobhead Leeds fan, wish both Burnley and these cunts had got relegated
