The talent is clearly there with this guy but needs serious ironing. Bielsa played some borderline suicidal football but it was still Phillips on the pitch that kept leaving his spaces open for opposition to attack through easily.

All the passing ability is great but redundant if the DM can't do the primary job, which is to protect our defense. It took Rodri 1.5 years to understand when to commit to tackling and when to cover space.

Same is true with any other player though so I wouldn't mind this deal. English is always an advantage as the player is unlikely to ever want to leave as long as he is getting game time.
He did the defensive role pretty decently for England in euros imo, as a backup to rodri, philips would be a great addition to the squad.

That’s exactly why we want him. Rodri will be our main DM for the next 5-10 years. We don’t need another world class player, just a squad player.

I agree entirely . . . Until the point at which Rodri picks up a lengthy injury, during the next 5 - 10 years, because at that juncture we’ll need another DM who can really cut the mustard as ‘just a squad player’ won’t win us the prizes.

Phillips at £35m is certainly better than Rice at £135m and scratches our English itch.

I would have went hard for Aurélien Tchouaméni, but clearly the club wasn't in for him at all or we'd have heard something by now. As long as he doesn't end up with the dippers then it's fine.
Dippers are certain they've got him

or you could look at the robertson from hull to the dippers? Good player in a struggling team who then moves to a MUCH better team with MUCH better players and the worlds best manager who obviously thinks he can bring the player up levels? Pep seemingly loves phillips now and can back himself to make him top class?

If Leeds had gone down this transfer wouldve been far easy to do. Now theyve stayed up the possible fee will have shot right up. You trust the manager and his assessment - I just think theres possible deals to be done elsewhere such as Nunes at Sporting Lisbon or even FDJ at Barca, especially with some of the players of ours we may be trading this summer. We'll see but anything north of £50m here would maybe see us look elsewhere - the player loves Leeds and wont piss in the pond there to force his way out.

If he has a buyout it all depends on the player and who wouldn’t want to join pep?

found the full Brentford vs Leeds replay online, 85% on 92 touches is outstanding in that sh!tshow of a match
and he pings the ball around progressively, takes FK's, he's not a whiny/simulating/diving/hacking POS either ... easy to pull for, hard to believe he'd rather stay in that mess rather come be a squad guy here, he'd get 92 touches easy coming on with 20 mins to go for City, ha
