Its happening!
Bout TimeIts happening!
Khaldoon Al Mubarak promises Manchester City will go from 'strength to strength' (thenationalnews.com)Its happening!
Al Mubarak also revealed there will be three more statues of City legends at the Etihad in the near future.
“We’ve had the statues of Vincent Kompany, David Silva and Sergio Aguero,” he said.
“These three reflect the most successful era in the history of this club.
“But there are other very successful eras and I think remembering Colin Bell, Francis Lee, Mike Summerbee is very important. This club has a great history.
“These are players that have contributed immensely to this club. They’ve earned the right to be appreciated forever, eternally with statues.
“I won’t say too much until it’s done but what I will say is these three legends will be properly respected and represented in a work of art that all the fans of this club will be able to see.”
Bell, Lee and Summerbee are widely regarded as three of City’s greatest players. All were pivotal in the 1960s and 70s as City won all three major domestic honours, as well as the 1969-70 European Cup Winners’ Cup.
Neil Young was just as deserving of a statue as Colin Bell, and certainly more than Summerbee and Lee.
All about opinions of course, but at least I was there to witness it.
“Skip” deserves one, as does Trautmann imo too.Neil Young was just as deserving of a statue as Colin Bell, and certainly more than Summerbee and Lee.
All about opinions of course, but at least I was there to witness it.
Ken Barnes another one.Tony Book, was not only a great player, but a long time servant of the Club, Skipper, coach & Manager
Be like the Terracotta Warriors soon, won't be able to get a pint in City Sq. Going to need the North Stand extension the rate they're giving away season tickets to ex-players. Hope they put them on the exchange when they can't goIt’s going to look like Formby beach outside the ground if we carry on like this for much longer.
I’m not going to lose any sleep over it but I think it’s already got a bit silly. And now they’ve set the precedent for basically anyone who is a regular for 9 or 10 years, they’re going to be throwing one up every couple of years unless we suddenly go a bit shit again.
Don't forget Bernard HalfordKen Barnes another one.
He is up there with Swales and Chappie.Don't forget Bernard Halford
Never understood his elevated position within the club unless it was to keep quiet about all the dodgy dealings he was complicite too.....Don't forget Bernard Halford
Statues are just statues. Interesting to those in the know….and pigeons. In Glasgow they put traffic cones on their heads and in Bristol they push them in the Severn. Why don't people want statues? It's like people are subsribing to the view "we have no history" when we do!
I'm too young to remember the Mercer and Allison era and before but I have for a long time thought that era deserves recognition as it was and still is the clubs most successful period.
Personally I would like to see a permanent tribute to Mercer and Allison and maybe some other tribute to club legends like Swift, Trautman, Bell, Lee, Summberbee, Young, etc.
Whether it be a statue, or some other gesture doesn't matter to me but to dismiss it like we're not good enough for it puzzles me.
