Could be important in a particular context. I don't think City want to be seen as a club that holds players back against their wishes, especially players surplus to requirements. Like you don't want me here, but you don't want to let me go where I want?

With Haaland and Alvarez coming in, we have a lot of attacking players if nobody leaves. Pep has made it clear that he likes a smallish squad, and our forward positions are going to be overstocked.

We're clearly in for Phillips, so that gives us 5 players for 2/3 midfield spots, and then 8/9 for 3/4 forward spots.

We had 6/7 in the forward spots this year and had players unhappy with their minutes.

I assume with Jesus, they're looking at Sterling leaving this season or next, and Mahrez within 1-2 seasons, and at 25 he's still got plenty to offer.
