That's it in a nutshell. Unfortunately they believed Bush who wanted to finish his father's work.
The two things that stick in my craw about the whole period are
1/Mandelson - " we are quite happy to see people get richer" in relation to people already very rich - they were blinded by success and enamoured with wealth and the rich realised they were ripe to have their bellies tickled and give them an easy life
2/ I have always maintained when they came to power the "sink" estates were visible wherever you travelled to - 13 years later in a lot of them little had changed. Those were the votes in the red walls they "weighed" rather than counted who had been wooed and groomed by Farage and criminally Labour didn't even see what was happening.
