I agree,he isnt worth the prices quoted, very few players are.

But let's see if he turns up here, and secondly lets wait and see what we actually pay when he does (not that it matters)

He is plenty good enough to be our back up destroyer,or to compliment Rodri when required, thats all thats of importance.
I agree with your first bit, but don't agree he's "plenty good enough", (and I am not going off just one game). I just think he's rash in his challenges and can be a liability, I can imagine him getting penalised much more for us.

He looked totally out of his depth playing decent opposition last night, a catalogue of mistakes throughout the game.

He's played less than 50 PL games in his career. He missed several months last season injured.

I do like his character but I don't think he's good enough for the level we want to play at.

Contrast him to the composure, good judgement pace and skills Rice has, it's like chalk and cheese. I know Rice is more expensive but I think he's worth it.

But he's not good enough to be our back up destroyer, that's literally the point. I thought DM was his specialism yet he was played through time and again last night, at one point giving away a goal by doing so.

If we do have a £60mil budget for midfield cover and this guy is the best the club have decided on, then the scouts aren't doing their job properly.

Yeah let's condemn him based on his performance in a nations league game managed by a mediocre manager where the players are all desperate to get on their hols.

I haven't really seen much of Phillips as I don't watch Leeds unless they are playing us, but it's a bit unfair to judge him on last night's game as the whole team were a fucking shambles.
Obviously if we are after him then Pep sees something in him that makes him feel he would be a good fit.
The downside to buying English players is the price..they are always sold at a premium.

I'm not a fan of his by any stretch but you're spot on there. I'd guess certain posters will think similar of Stones, Walker, Sterling & Grealish after the last 4 games.

There is a site called FotMob that do player ratings in running based on their overall contribution.

While Phillips did not score well he didn’t have the lowest mark on the England team in fact 3 players were below him.

The lowest of all was a certain Kyle Walker the very same player that some BlueMooners think is currently irreplaceable.

Now I am neither for or against Phillips but it’s dangerous to read too much into one performance where the whole team played badly.

If we were looking to point the finger it could be just too many games for players that need a break.

My own opinion is that Southgate has been the beneficiary of a lot of lucky draws and has actually underachieved given the players at his disposal.
